Sebastopol, CA, June 15, 2022 – What will win the taste test at Dutton Estate Winery’s “Dutton Wine Class: Barrel vs Tank vs Egg” on July 16th?  In this new educational event, attendees will experience a winemaker led guided tasting class, and learn through four Chardonnays the impacts of different kinds of barrel, tank and the concrete egg.

Winemakers Kylie Dutton and Bobby Donnell will teach this class in the winery cellar where attendees will be surrounded by French and American barrels, stainless steel tanks and two large concrete eggs.

“Of all the grape varieties, Chardonnay can taste so different depending on the choices we make in the cellar.  Tasting them side by side is one of the best ways to understand how different types of barrels or a lack of wood affect the wine,” said Kylie Dutton, who is a sixth generation Sonoma County farmer and her family winery’s Assistant Winemaker.

Four different Chardonnay compose the guided flight, including a brand new one that will be debuted at the class.  This new Chardonnay, whose name is still being kept a secret, is the first in the winery’s 26 years to be crafted entirely in the concrete egg.

The Dutton Family is synonymous with Russian River Valley Chardonnay.  Husband and wife Joe and Tracy Dutton, Kylie’s parents, founded the winery in 1995, combining family agricultural heritages rooted in Sonoma County.  Tracy’s great-grandparents began farming in the 1920s, and Dutton Ranch was founded in 1964 by Joe’s parents. Today the Dutton family farms 1400 acres of vineyards and orchards, and Dutton Estate Winery crafts several single vineyard wines and Hard Apple Cider.

Tickets are $85 and include a guided wine class of four Chardonnays, followed by a luncheon with a selection of red and white wines and Hard Apple Cider.  Tickets and information at duttonestate.com
