Wilson Daniels Announces the 2020 Vintage Release from Historic Provence Winery, Commanderie de Peyrassol

April 21, 2021 (New York, NY) — Fine wine importer Wilson Daniels is pleased to announce the 2020 vintage release from Commanderie de Peyrassol, a historical fixture of Côtes de Provence that today serves as the benchmark for the most exceptional, terroir-driven rosés in the region.

“Our relationship with Peyrassol has just begun, but the Austruy family has already proven to be an incredible partner who shares the same set of values as the Wilson Daniels team,” said Rocco Lombardo, President of Wilson Daniels. “Phillippe and his team of experts pay homage to the estate’s rich winemaking heritage, legacy of hospitality, and unique terroir with each bottle that they produce. This level of care and precision is on full display in the 2020 vintage, and we can’t wait to share the newly released rosés with the US market.”

Founded by the Knights Templar in the 13th century, the 1000-hectare estate situated on the north side of the Massif des Maures has continuously produced distinctive, energetic wines that are emblematic of the iconic terroir of Provence for over 800 years.

“The 2020 growing season began in spring with regular rainfall, followed by an intensive summer heat. However, the temperature variation between the cool nights and hot days helped the grapes attain a well-balanced acidity, and we were ready for harvest a full week earlier than the previous year,” said Phillippe Austruy, Proprietor of Peyrassol. “We’re incredibly proud of our 2020 vintage releases. They exhibit a certain sense of maturity that will cause you to linger over your glass and contemplate the elegance of a truly expressive Provençal rosé.”

The quality measures implemented in both the vineyards and the winery are extensive and necessary to achieve the highest caliber of Provençal rosé. Organic practices are implemented throughout the 95 hectares of pristine vineyards throughout the growing season, with the team providing tailored attention to each vineyard site. All fruit is harvested at night to maintain freshness, and winemaking is carried out according to the traditional gravity principle. This gentle care and conscious reduction of human intervention results in elegant, mineral-driven, impeccably balanced rosés.

The 2020 vintage release will feature the full range of rosés from the Commanderie: Croix de Peyrassol ($17), Réserve des Templiers ($21), the flagship Cuvée des Commandeurs ($25), Château Peyrassol ($40), and Clos Peyrassol ($74).
