Trunk diseases negatively impact grape production. The first signs of the disease include wood dieback and canker which cause entire vines to be lost, leading to significant yield reduction and decrease in grower’s revenue.

Wounds are the point of entry for the pathogenic fungi causing these diseases. During the pruning season, several wounds are made on a single vine and if wounds remain unprotected they are at risk to become infected. Research shows that the greatest potential losses could reach over $160,000 per acre.

Several products are currently registered for pruning protection in conventional grape production. However, these products are washed off in rain and thus several applications are required. Others, may cause toxicity of the grapevine or contaminate soil and ground water giving organic growers little options for control of trunk diseases.

Agrobiomics, is an agricultural biotech company focusing on developing natural product solutions to the fruit and nut tree crops. Our second product, CropSeal 2.0 uses a patent-pending technology from the University of California, Riverside to protect against trunk diseases. Its unique formulation of beeswax and JMS Stylet Oil creates an active coating on pruning wound surfaces that sticks even under rainy weather while providing antimicrobial activity for control of trunk diseases.

CropSeal 2.0 is the only commercially available pruning sealant certified for use in organic production in accordance with the USDA National Organic Standards.

CropSeal 2.0 is available online. Please visit us at agrobiomics.com for more information and to place your order.
