WaterMark Wine to install and demonstrate independent property wildfire defense system Aug. 24 in Angwin
August 12, 2026 (Angwin, CA) — After another year of wildfire concerns across Napa Valley, longtime wine industry veterans Phil and Diane Steinschriber are taking additional steps to protect their Howell Mountain property with the installation of an independent wildfire defense system at WaterMark Wine.
On Aug. 24, Northern California-based Response Ready Fire Systems will install the system at WaterMark Wine in Angwin and conduct a live demonstration showing how private water resources can be used to provide exterior structure and property protection during a wildfire event.
For the Steinschribers, the decision follows decades in the Napa Valley wine industry and the continuing reality of wildfire throughout the region.
Phil Steinschriber spent decades as winemaker at Diamond Creek Vineyards before establishing WaterMark Wine, his personal Howell Mountain label.
“Wildfire has become something property owners throughout Napa Valley have to think about differently than they did 20 or 30 years ago,” said Nick Faulkner, founder of Response Ready Fire Systems. “The goal isn’t to replace firefighters or traditional defensible-space practices. It’s to give property owners another tool and another layer of preparation using water resources they may already have on the property.”
Unlike conventional exterior sprinklers connected solely to household water pressure, the Response Ready system being installed at WaterMark uses an independent engine-driven pumping system capable of drawing from an existing private water source.
The system supplies strategically positioned exterior water cannons and sprinkler zones designed to wet structures and surrounding areas threatened by wind-driven embers and wildfire.
The system can also be configured for extended operation, allowing property owners to prepare and activate their defenses before leaving during an evacuation.
The Aug. 24 installation will include a full live demonstration at the WaterMark property, providing an opportunity to see the pumping system, water source, exterior water cannons and sprinkler zones operating together.
Phil and Diane Steinschriber will be available to discuss their experience in Napa Valley, the changing wildfire threat and why they decided to invest in additional protection for their property.
Faulkner will also be available to demonstrate the equipment and discuss how independent wildfire defense systems are being configured for homes, ranches, vineyards and other properties throughout wildfire-prone areas of Northern California.
