July 14, 2026 (Barcelona, Spain) — The Board of Directors of Fira de Barcelona has appointed the current president of the Regulatory Council of the Rioja Qualified Designation of Origin (DOCa), Raquel Pérez Cuevas, as president of the Organising Committee of Barcelona Wine Week 2027, the leading trade fair for Spanish quality wine.

With a solid career in the wine industry, Raquel Pérez is the first woman to preside over the DOCa Rioja in its hundred years of existence. The new president of Barcelona Wine Week comes from the family that owns Bodegas Ontañon, where she is CEO, and has extensive professional experience linked to the Rioja wine sector.
Raquel Pérez, Agricultural Engineer with a degree in Oenology, is also the highest representative of Esencia Rioja, one of the main winery associations in the Denomination, and currently holds the presidency of the Interprofessional Organization of Rioja Wine (OIPVR).
Pérez takes over from Javier Pagés, former president of the DO Cava, who has held the presidency of the show since its creation in 2019, and has been characterized by defending the quality, origin and capacity of the industry to generate value as a collective challenge.
In her new position heading the organising committee of Barcelona Wine Week 2027, Raquel Pérez faces a stage of full consolidation of the leading show in our country for quality Spanish wine and its projection in international markets. His management will be focused on the international promotion of the show and on facing the main challenges of the sector such as the encouragement of the domestic market and the recovery of the notoriety of Spanish production.
For Raquel Pérez “it is an honour to continue promoting a fair that accompanies the development of the Spanish wine sector, promoting its offer in Spanish and international markets and reinforcing business, expansion and innovation opportunities for the participating wineries”.
Global reach
Since its launch, Barcelona Wine Week has established itself as one of the main business spaces for the Spanish wine sector. In its seventh edition, from 8 to 10 February 2027 in Halls 1 and 2 of Fira de Barcelona’s Montjuïc venue, it is expected to bring together more than 1,300 exhibiting companies, 90 DOs and quality seals and nearly 26,000 professionals, 20% of them international, from 73 countries. Its high international participation confirms the show’s ability to connect the participating wineries with the most demanding international markets for quality Spanish wine.
The new president of Barcelona Wine Week will lead an Organising Committee made up of the Spanish Wine Federation (FEV), the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA), ICEX Spain Export and Investment, the Spanish Conference of Wine Regulatory Councils (CECRV), the Catalan Wine Association (AVC) and the leading cooperative bank Cajamar.
