Green & Red Vineyard Names Greg Fitzgerald as Winemaker and Viticulturist

Greg Fitzgerald, Winemaker and Viticulturist

June 24, 2026 (St. Helena, CA) — Green & Red Vineyard has appointed Greg Fitzgerald as Winemaker and Viticulturist. Fitzgerald brings more than 15 years of winemaking experience to the role, along with a degree in Viticulture and Enology from UC Davis.

Green & Red was founded in 1977 by Jay Heminway — a UC Berkeley sculpture professor who traded the Berkeley hills for the Vaca Mountains, acquiring a rugged estate where he planted Zinfandel and other fine varietals. Heminway was part of a close-knit circle that included Alice Waters – Green & Red has proudly made the house wine at Chez Panisse for more than 35 years.

One of the few remaining Napa Valley estates focusing on Zinfandel, Green & Red has been steadfast in its identity across nearly five decades. Fitzgerald steps into that legacy as its steward, tasked with carrying forward the elegance and restraint that have always defined these wines.

“Green & Red occupies a singular place in California Zinfandel,” says Fitzgerald. “The combination of mountain elevation, estate fruit, and decades of accumulated knowledge here is rare. My focus is on honoring that identity while continuing to push the quality of every wine we make –– Wines that reflect the authentic character of the site.”

“Greg understands the vision here at Green & Red and the tradition we’re honored to carry forward. We’re excited to have Greg on board here at Green & Red Vineyard,” says Tobin Heminway, the owner.
