May 6, 2026 (Willamette Valley, OR) — Blackbird Vineyard Services (BVS) and Dirt Hugger have partnered to introduce organic compost application for the 2026 growing season. This collaboration combines Blackbird’s vineyard management expertise with Dirt Huggers’ locally sourced compost solutions to support more sustainable farming practices across the region.
This effort reflects a shared commitment to advancing regenerative approaches in the Willamette Valley. By integrating compost into vineyard systems, BVS aims to improve soil health, support vine balance, and help growers adapt to evolving environmental and economic conditions.
Organic compost plays an important role in building soil structure, increasing organic matter, and enhancing water-holding capacity—key factors in vineyard performance, particularly as growers navigate variability in weather patterns and resource availability.
Through this partnership, Blackbird Vineyard Services will manage all aspects of compost application, including sourcing, delivery coordination, and site-specific application strategies based on soil conditions, block history, and vineyard goals. Optional soil testing will also be available to track changes in organic matter, nutrient availability, and moisture retention over time.
“Our goal is to provide vineyard partners with practical, site-specific solutions that support both immediate vineyard performance and long-term sustainability,” said Sam Stetser, President/Owner, Blackbird Vineyard Services. “This partnership allows us to integrate locally sourced compost into our vineyard programs in a way that’s aligned with each site’s conditions, goals, and long-term soil strategy.”
“We’re excited to partner with Blackbird Vineyard Services to support growers across the Willamette Valley,” said Pierce Louis, Co-Founder, Dirt Hugger “By returning organic materials back to the soil as high-quality compost, we’re helping build healthier soils and more resilient agricultural systems throughout the region.”
The service is now available for the 2026 season, with application timing coordinated to align with spring vineyard conditions and operational schedules. Vineyard owners and managers interested in organic compost application are encouraged to contact Blackbird Vineyard Services for more information. Call 503.567.3548 or email info@blackbirdvs.com
