Treasury Wine Estates Releases ‘Cultivating a Brighter Future’ Report

October 9, 2025 — Treasury Wine Estates (TWE) today released its Cultivating a brighter future Report, outlining the luxury wine producer’s progress against its sustainability agenda. The report features adaptation and mitigation projects including on-site solar systems across its global vineyards and production facilities, as well as electric vehicle charging, alternative fuel transition, water preservation, sustainability certification and process automation projects.

Chief Supply and Sustainability Officer Kerrin Petty said sustainability was core to TWE’s global operations: “The changing climate presents challenges for all agricultural businesses, and our ongoing investment represents our long-term commitment to sustainability in wine production. We’ve been custodians of some of the world’s best viticultural assets for almost two centuries, so continuing to care for the environment for generations to come is a natural progression. In this decade of action, it’s critical that industry, government, and academic institutions come together to respond to challenges.”

Future projects aim to mitigate risk and adapt to the changing climate over the short term, including smart meter installation and building climate control, complemented by longer-term initiatives including water security, vineyard management practices and redevelopment, and growing region expansion.

Sustainability highlights from the 2025 financial year and outlined in the report include:

  • A transition to being powered by sunshine, with TWE’s global operations now powered by 100% renewable electricity as part of a commitment to achieve net zero (scope 1 and 2) by 2030. The milestone is supported by 34 on-site solar systems that together generate 5,600 MWh, an investment of more than $31 million over the past 4 years.
  • The opening of a $15 million in-house facility dedicated to no- and low-alcohol wine production in South Australia’s Barossa Valley, re-affirming TWE’s commitment to innovation and offering consumers great-tasting wine produced using the world-first process to preserve a wine’s essence while reducing its alcohol content.
  • Achieving sustainability certification for more than 98% of global winery and vineyard sites, benefiting biodiversity, soil health, traceability and transparency for consumers. In Australia, more than 31 million litres of wine was sustainably certified.
  • Investing in adaptation by partnering with Australia’s national science agency, the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation, to develop mildew-resistant and climate-resilient grapevines using heritage vines from the Barossa Valley and Coonawarra regions, using selective breeding techniques.

Global Director of Sustainability Michael Parks said: “We’re working hard to embed sustainability in everything we do: analysing water use in vineyards, diverting waste from landfill, installing large-scale solar systems, and investing in scientific collaborations on long-term adaptation projects. There are challenges ahead for the global agriculture sector, but through our bold sustainability ambition and significant financial investment, we’re optimistic about making a difference to the future of wine, viticulture, and our planet.”
