New Gavi DOCG Brings Fresh Expression of Cortese to U.S. Consumers

September 2, 2025 (New York, NY) — Fontanafredda, a historic leader in Barolo, is launching Fontanafredda Gavi DOCG 2024. This approachable new expression of Gavi DOCG will be available in the US market on September 1, 2025 with an SRP of $22.99.
With this new release, Fontanafredda expands its footprint in the important Italian white wine and Piedmont category, introducing a more approachable SKU that serves as an accessible entry point for consumers seeking a quality Italian white at a more attainable price. This addition complements the brand’s well-established Fontanafredda Gavi di Gavi DOCG and will be available in both on- and off-premise channels.
Both Gavi DOCG and Gavi di Gavi DOCG wines are crafted from the Cortese grape, native to Piedmont. The distinction lies in terroir: Gavi di Gavi DOCG is produced exclusively from vineyards within the municipality of Gavi, while Gavi DOCG encompasses fruit from the surrounding 11 communes, offering a broader expression of the appellation.

Tasting Notes: Bright straw-yellow with greenish highlights, this wine offers a fine and elegant bouquet of fresh flowers and fruit, with notes of lemon, lily of the valley, and crisp apple. On the palate, it’s youthful, dry, fresh, and harmonious. Ideal as an aperitif, it also pairs beautifully with light appetizers and seafood, making it a refreshing choice for warm- weather occasions.
Vinification: After gentle pressing, the must is separated from the skins, refrigerated, and undergoes static decantation before fermentation at controlled temperatures (16-18˚C). The wine is then added to stainless steel for 4-5 months and bottled in the spring to preserve the freshness and vibrancy.
Fontanafredda Gavi DOCG 2024 will be available September 1, 2025 at select retailers nationwide for $22.99.
