Livermore Valley Establishes Cabernet Franc as Signature Varietal with Formation of Cab Franc Guild and First FrancFest July 12-13, 2025

June 27, 2025 (Livermore Valley, CA) — The Livermore Valley wine region is affirming its position as a premier destination for Cabernet Franc with the official formation of the Cab Franc Guild. The new organization, comprising 15 dedicated winemakers, grape growers, and hospitality professionals, aims to elevate Cabernet Franc to the forefront of Livermore Valley’s wine identity. Members will kick off their efforts with FrancFest: A Celebration of Cabernet Franc, on July 12 and 13, from 12pm to 4pm each day.

The Cab Franc Guild of Livermore Valley seeks to create a world-class identity for the region through Cabernet Franc. The guild will focus on producing exceptional wines and engaging consumers through events designed to celebrate and showcase the varietal’s potential.

“Establishing the Cab Franc Guild is a pivotal step forward for the Livermore Valley in making Cabernet Franc a marquee grape for our region,” said Steven Mirassou, founding member of the Cab Franc Guild and owner of Steven Kent Winery. “With Cabernet Franc as our stake in the ground, we are thrilled to unite as a community to amplify this varietal’s elegance, complexity, and versatility.”

Fellow founding member Heather McGrail, president at McGrail Vineyards and Winery, added, “The creation of the Cab Franc Guild is about more than just promoting a varietal—it’s about collaboration, innovation, and sharing the distinct charm of Livermore Valley with the world. Cabernet Franc offers us a unique canvas to showcase our terroir, and we’re excited to invite wine lovers on this journey with us.”

On July 12 and 13, the Cab Franc Guild’s inaugural FrancFest will offer opportunities to connect with winemakers, enjoy exclusive tastings, and explore the diverse expressions of Cabernet Franc crafted in Livermore Valley. Guests will enjoy curated experiences unique to each participating winery, from wood-fired pizza pairings at Cuda Ridge Wines and olive oil tastings at Rodrigue Molyneaux, to a Cab Franc aroma bar and live music at McGrail Vineyards. Three Vasco Row wineries will host a patio party with food trucks and live entertainment.
