June 11, 2025 (Lazio, Italy) — From 6 to 8 June, the stunning Abbey of Fossanova in Priverno (Latina) hosted more than 4,000 visitors for the fourth edition of Vini d’Abbazia, the event that celebrates monastic winemaking heritage through history, culture, and exceptional tastings. The event drew the attention of a wide-ranging audience – from young enthusiasts to seasoned wine lovers – attracted by the unique labels at the tasting counters and the thought-provoking themes explored in the masterclasses and conferences. More than 30 wineries linked to abbeys participated, showcasing rare and historic wines preserved through centuries by sacred places and monastic communities. Among the exhibitors: Italy’s leading abbey wineries, secular producers historically connected to monastic sites, the French network Les Vins d’Abbayes, and the Monastery of Alaverdi – Badagoni, a symbol of Orthodox Christianity in Georgia. Tastings took place in the evocative cloister of the Abbey, alongside the Food & Wine Village featuring regional culinary excellence and live music. Cultural and institutional meetings brought together local and regional authorities with key figures from the worlds of agriculture, culture, and food & wine.

“Vini d’Abbazia is a concrete example of how tradition can meet innovation, creating value for the region,” said Giovanni Acampora, President of the Camera di Commercio Frosinone-Latina. “The 2025 Jubilee presents a unique opportunity to strengthen the links between tourism, agrifood, and entrepreneurship. That’s why the Chamber fully supports integrated initiatives like this one – capable of driving growth, employment, and regional identity. Including Vini d’Abbazia in the regional project Le Vie del Giubileo represents a true team effort. We must continue working together to build a high-quality cultural offer that encourages year-round tourism based on our unique local assets.”
The themed masterclasses, held in the Abbey’s Refectory, were particularly well attended, drawing in curious visitors eager to experience wine not only as a product but as a cultural expression. Each session – led by respected voices from the wine and cultural sectors – offered stimulating reflections on the relationship between tradition and the contemporary world. The 2025 edition was part of “Le Vie del Giubileo”, a regional initiative promoted by Regione Lazio and ARSIAL (the Regional Agency for the Development and Innovation of Lazio Agriculture), aimed at enhancing places of spirituality, hospitality, and food and wine culture through events and local networks.
“Events like Vini d’Abbazia highlight the deep value of wine, not just as a product, but as a narrative tool, a driver of regeneration, and a unifying force for communities,” said Massimiliano Raffa, President of ARSIAL. “Lazio’s wine heritage is millennia-old, and today increasingly focused on quality, sustainability, and the promotion of local varieties. With its inclusion in “Le Vie del Giubileo”, this event gains even more importance, reaffirming the role of wine as a symbol of sharing, memory, and spirituality. Regione Lazio and ARSIAL are committed to supporting producers through strategic promotion and development initiatives, aiming to unlock the full potential of our agrifood sector.”

Technical partners include Vivaio Aumenta, Acqua Filette, Sabaudia Hotel & Spa 4*, Il San Francesco Charming Hotel Sabaudia 4*, Associazione Italiana Sommelier, Bodema, Ponza & Dintorni, and Osteria Persei. Official media partners of the event are Rai Radio 2 and Vinum. The event takes place in Fossanova, a hamlet of Priverno, just a few kilometers from the Parco Nazionale del Circeo and the beaches of Sabaudia. A land of biodiversity, ancient villages, and enduring heritage, the event is a collective effort to promote the region and strengthen Lazio’s identity as a destination for wine tourism. For three days, the Abbey becomes a place of stories and encounters, where wine becomes a messenger of identity and a catalyst for cultural and tourism development in the region.
THE ABBEY OF FOSSANOVA: A TIMELESS SETTING
The event takes place within the monumental Abbey of Fossanova, one of the most significant examples of Cistercian Gothic architecture in Italy. Built between the 12th and 13th centuries on the remains of an earlier Benedictine monastery, it was entrusted to the Cistercians in 1135 and soon became a major spiritual and cultural centre. The Abbey is also known for hosting the final days of Saint Thomas Aquinas in 1274, one of the greatest philosophers and theologians of the Middle Ages. Today, the medieval cloister is the heart of the event, hosting tastings, while the restored Refectory and surrounding village serve as venues for masterclasses and discussions. Here, where time seems to stand still, wine merges with the profound beauty and heritage of the place.
