Biodynamic Masterclass Series Cambium Formazione Comes to Quintessa in Napa Valley for Inaugural U.S. Edition

Cambium Napa Valley will feature three days of masterclasses, tastings, and discussions led by international leaders in biodynamic viticulture.

Rutherford, CA, June 13, 2023—Biodynamic wine producers and industry voices from around the world will gather at Quintessa in Napa Valley on July 27-29, 2023 for the seventh edition of Cambium Formazione, a European masterclass series that aims to build community and conversation around biodynamic farming and wine.

Founded by Italian biodynamic research organization, Cambium Formazione, the event will bring together three leading Italian wine producers—Foradori, Ceretto, and Emidio Pepe—and is hosted in partnership with Biodynamic Demeter Alliance, Oregon’s Montinore Estate, and Quintessa.

Over the course of the three-day series, producers, viticulturists, sommeliers and wine professionals will convene at the Quintessa estate to hear from notable biodynamic producers. Joining the Italian producers will be Cambium Formazione founder Adriano Zago, Biodynamic Demeter Alliance’s Daphne Amory, Montinore Estate partner and winemaker Rudy Marchesi, geologist and terroir specialist Brenna Quigley, biologist and ecologist Olga Barbosa, wine writer, speaker, and educator Samantha Cole-Johnson, as well as other guests and speakers.

Session highlights include:

  • “Emidio Pepe: A journey of biodynamic transformation” with Chiara Pepe and Adriano Zago
  • “Building organic matter at Ceretto” with Federico Ceretto and Adriano Zago
  • “A journalist’s perspective on biodynamic viticulture” with Samantha Cole-Johnson

Zago emphasized the importance of bringing international perspectives to this event: “We are mixing not just people and knowledge, but cultures, in the heart of one of the country’s most prestigious wine regions. We will be surrounded by thought-leaders in the biodynamic space where we can listen and learn from each other.”

Elisabetta Foradori, winemaker and estate manager of her family winery in Mezzolombardo, stated: “Shifting environmental factors have been at the core of our decision to use biodynamic approaches to transform our family’s property into a multifunctional farm. Joining this masterclass is a unique opportunity for us to share the lessons that we have learned and present our wines to an internationally acclaimed group of individuals.”

The series will be co-hosted by Rodrigo Soto, Quintessa estate director, who remarked: “We are thrilled to welcome this gathering to our estate. Although we have been farming with organic and biodynamic techniques for more than two decades, the estate is continually researching and developing vineyard practices that can benefit the industry and improve wine quality.”
