New Argentine Ultra-Premium Bordeaux Blend from Bodega Tapiz and Winemaker Jean Claude Berrouet To Debut This Fall

Fort Worth, TX September 2022 – It is with immense pleasure that Vino Del Sol announces the release of Retrato Por Jean Claude 2017, a new ultra-premium Bordeaux blend in exclusive partnership with Bodega Tapiz and Jean Claude Berrouet, former winemaker of esteemed Chateau Petrus in Bordeaux. The limited label is the second Berrouet has personally hand-crafted for Tapiz, the sustainably farmed, estate-owned winery in Mendoza’s Uco Valley. Joining the first label Las Notas, a premium Merlot released five years ago, Retrato will debut this November in time to be enjoyed for the holidays.

Jean Claude Berrouet, renowned for his forty-four vintages with Chateau Petrus, has spent a decade with Tapiz harnessing the potential of the winery’s terroir. One of the highest in Mendoza, the vineyard’s extreme altitude, temperature, and soil heterogeneity produce full-bodied and well-balanced wines. Owner Patricia Ortiz, whose vision helped establish San Pablo as one of Argentina’s most respected IGs, is considered a pioneer in the region.

“Jean Claude has brought elegance and finesse to our portfolio of wines. With his experience and knowledge in Bordeaux, he implements innovative techniques and produces wines unlike any other in Argentina,” explains Ortiz. “Retrato means portrait, and Jean Claude has created an ultra-premium Bordeaux blend that epitomizes the beautiful tapestry of terroir and innovation we strive to produce in all our wines. We are thrilled to bring it to the United States.”

Retrato is composed of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Cabernet Franc, 8% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot from Tapiz’s single estate in San Pablo located at the foot of the Andes Mountains. The vineyard’s extreme flux in temperature allows for a slow ripening of the grapes and acid retention. The wine shows deep and layered notes of currants and cigar box with hints of cocoa powder and red chili. Supple and textured on the palate with a juicy and silky center-palate, it is extremely poised and elegant.

The bottle is adorned with a label designed by longstanding partner Boldrini & Ficcardi. The front showcases the Andes, the mountain range that accounts for the wine’s exceptional terroir and carries the stamp of Jean Claude’s name and year of harvest.

Retrato Por Jean Claude 2017 ($100 for 750ml bottle) will be available nationwide in November. For more information on the wines and where to find them visit https://vinodelsol.com/thewineries/tapiz/.
