September 6th – Napa, CA – Napa Valley’s La Pelle has completed their collection of wines with the release of their Syrah and Chardonnay, both sourced from Santa Barbara County’s iconic Bien Nacido Vineyard. Founded in 2016 by Maayan Koschitzky (Israel), Miguel Luna (Mexico) and Pete Richmond (United States), La Pelle’s mission is to create terroir-driven wines that are the ultimate expression of the sites from which the fruit is sourced.
Koschitzky, perhaps best known as Director of Winemaking for Atelier Melka, helms winemaking at La Pelle, while Richmond and Luna oversee farming at their vineyard sources. The balance of the La Pelle Collection of wines includes their single vineyard series—Cenzia Vineyard (Coombsville) Red Hen Vineyard (Oakville) and Alluvium Vineyard (St. Helena); a Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, and two wines that carry the Napa Valley designation, the Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Their wines range in price from $55.00 to $185.00.
Richmond began his career in viticulture at Bien Nacido in the 1970’s and was determined to source fruit from one of California’s most celebrated designates and the jewel in the crown of the Santa Maria Valley AVA. Other producers who source fruit at Bien Nacido include Sine Qua Non, Ojai Vineyard, Chanin, Au Bon Climat, and Tyler, among many others.
Steve Miller, President and CEO of Bien Nacido Vineyards, who, along with his brother, Bob Miller (now deceased) established Bien Nacido Vineyards in 1969, says, “Our family has been fortunate to attract wonderful talent, to nurture the evolution of Bien Nacido Vineyards from its inception to today. Without question, Pete Richmond is one of the most important contributors to our vineyard’s success. His ability to craft and fine tune seasonal cultural plans to the variations of vintages, and produce outstanding and consistently excellent fruit, while being responsive to the individual nuances of a constellation of talented winemakers’ wishes is a testimony to his talent, responsiveness, and hard work. The Miller family is excited to be a part of La Pelle’s forthcoming releases.”
