NAPA VALLEY, September 2022 – Mayacamas, the renowned Napa Valley winery on the slopes of Mount Veeder, announces the release of its 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon and the re-release of its lauded 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon. In keeping with the practices employed with the library vintage a decade prior, Winemaker Braiden Albrecht and Consulting Winemaker Andy Erickson produced the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon utilizing classical techniques that are integral to the character of the vineyard’s legendary wines and synonymous with the Mayacamas name.

“Keeping with our classic technique, we harvested the grapes early in 2018 for our signature varietal to retain high acidity that the Cabernets from Mayacamas are known for,” said Braiden Albrecht, Winemaker at Mayacamas. “The 2018 Cabernet has a powerful frame that is plush with detail and nuance and drives a persistent finish, which aligns well with the 2008 vintage’s palate with a firm mountain structure and excellent fruit concentration.”

The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon was harvested by hand in mid-September through October, before the fruit was sorted and destemmed to prepare for fermentation. A combination of vessels was utilized including concrete (60%), stainless steel (30%), and neutral French puncheon (10%). Fermented dry, the wine was racked into large format foudre for 20 months, then neutral French oak barrique for 12 months prior to bottling. The wine is characterized by florals of fresh violet and lavender, fruit notes of raspberry, blackberry and currant, and underpinned by secondary tones of leather, menthol, and cedar.

Complementing the 2018 release, the 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon opens with florals of fresh lilac and violet with a palate containing notes of just ripe raspberry, blackberry, and cherry. Framed by secondary tones of dried sage, anise, and cardamom, this wine includes tones of pine resin, graphite and tobacco and features a long finish.

The 2018 and 2008 Mayacamas Cabernet Sauvignon will be officially available in September, priced at $150 for a 750mL bottle of the 2018 release and $250 for a 750mL bottle of the 2008 vintage. For more information, please visit Mayacamas.com.
