New to Market: Domäne Wachau Launches Steinwerk in U.S.

26 April – Domäne Wachau Steinwerk 2020 has arrived! This newly released wine is not typical of  the traditional Wachau style, but rather part of a portfolio that aims to create wine outside of  the stringent Austrian winemaking laws, looking at older techniques to bring a newer flavor  to consumers.

Made from 100% Grüner Veltliner from the vineyards of Spitzer Graben, the wine was  fermented spontaneously in marble and granite vessels and, after 12 months of aging on  the fine lees, the wine was bottled without fining and filtration.

Domäne Wachau’s Master of Wine Roman Horvath says, “We are excited to release the  Steinwerk in the U.S. The use of marble and granite is an older technique that creates a  beautiful chalkiness and adds a wet stone character to the wine. As a winemaker, going  outside the typical winemaking process, creates wines you don’t often find on the market  and the Steinwerk is a unique wine that is a conversation starter.”

Retailing for $39.99, the Domäne Wachau Grüner Veltliner Steinwerk Spitzer Graban  2020 will be released in select markets in May 2022.

The Domäne Wachau winery manages 30% of the entire Wachau vineyard area, or around 400 hectares, including half of Austria’s most iconic vineyard, Achleiten. Additional famous vineyards such as Kollmitz, Liebenberg and Tausend-Eimer-Berg are found on Domäne  Wachau’s vineyard map and make it the only winery in the Wachau with wines from all of  the most prestigious sites in the region. The winery has a sustainable vineyard management program that includes measures of quality cultivation and is customized  according to specific vineyards and vintage.
