Tussock Jumper Releases New Wine Vintages

New sustainably sourced red wine varietals are now available to the US market

May  7th, 2021, New York, NY – Just in time for summer barbecues and burger season, Tri-Vin Imports announced this week that new red wine vintages of global wine portfolio Tussock Jumper are now available for the US market. Each wine is sustainably sourced from small farms from one of their 11 global wine regions, then blended in that region to support local community employment.  The following are new offerings available to all states.

Tussock Jumper Cabernet Sauvignon 2020, Tulum Valley, San Juan, Argentina ($12.99)

Dark ruby red in color, with blackberries, cassis, and dark plums on the nose. Full bodied with medium acidity, a dry finish, and silky smooth tannins, making it very delicate and easy to drink.

Harvest Details

The Cabernet Sauvignon was hand harvested starting in early March and until the beginning of April. Vineyards are located 650 meters above sea level, with the soil of alluvial origin, with sandy loam and clay loam. Drip irrigation is used to conserve water, and the vines are trellis-trained.  Approximately one third of this 100% Cabernet Sauvignon blend was oak aged for three months, split between 50% in French Oak and 50% in American Oak. It is 13% ABV. Pair it with grilled meats, pizza, and hearty dishes.
Tussock Jumper 2020 Malbec, Tulum Valley, San Juan Argentina ($1 Hand harvested and grown using sustainable farming practices, this rich red wine from South America is bright red in color with purple hues, and distinct aromas of red plums and raspberries, mingled with notes of vanilla from oak aging. It is fresh and young, with velvety tannins, and a pleasant, lingering finish.

Harvest Details

The vineyards are located in the Tulum Valley, San Juan at an average altitude of 650 meters above sea level.

The weather is desert-like, with over 300 days of sun per year, low rainfall (approximately 90 mm/year), low relative humidity, and warm and dry winds. Meltwater from the Andes mountain range is used for drip irrigation for water conservation.

Average temperatures were higher than normal during the 2019 to 2020 season, especially between November and January. Consequently, harvest was earlier than expected. Rainfall was lower than average, and with a good development of the canopy, and a high fruit/leaf ratio. The harvest date for Malbec was between late February and late March.

Red wines were produced using and air mixing process, an innovative automated system to keep  temperature, pump-over, and oxygen addition under control. In this way, it is possible to obtain an adequate extraction of polyphenolic components that  provide structure. Malolactic fermentation is used in red wine production, with three months in American and French oak. This wine is 100% Malbec, at 13% ABV. Burgers, steaks, and pepperoni pizza make for great pairing partners.

Tussock Jumper 2019 Pinot Noir, France ($12.99)

A previous three-time Gold Medal winning wine with flavors of red berries, cherry, and wild strawberries, along with aromas of crushed black fruits, vanilla, and baking spice are on the nose. It is a fresh, youthful wine that showcases the beauty of all three regions it is harvested from.

Harvest Details

For the 2019 vintage, 100% Pinot Noir grapes from Gascony, Languedoc and Loire Valley were harvested early in September, with the early ripening parcels. Grapes were handpicked rapidly, thereby avoiding any over-ripened fruit in the vats.

The plots in these vineyard locations are quite steep, and deliver top quality fruit. The crush finished in less than two weeks. The weather was moderate during the entire harvest period, with the last picked grapes displaying greater concentration. The ABV on this wine is 12.5%. Pair it with grilled Portobello mushrooms, bacon and blue cheese burgers, or sweet balsamic glazed salmon.
