The exceptional vintage celebrates Kuhlman Cellars’ sixth birthday.

Stonewall, Texas – October 5, 2020 – Kuhlman Cellars is proud to release an exceptional bottle of wine: 2017 Ignis ($62). This is the first time this wine has been produced. “Ignis is only made in exceptional vintages,” explains Kuhlman Cellars co-founder Chris Cobb. “In 2017 the stars aligned. There will be no 2018, 2019, or 2020 Ignis, so this will be the only Ignis release for several years.”

Ignis, which means fire, has notes of dates, almond, and allspice. The grapes hail from Newsom Vineyards. Ignis is named after the caliche “fire rocks” brought to Neal Newsom’s vineyard site by Native Americans. Over time, with many fires, these caliche rocks took on a distinct look and feel. These unique rocks communicate the importance of this vineyard – not only in history but in the specific location.  Neal’s terroir allows for very low yield fruit translating intensely in the glass.

The blend is 47% Newsom Vineyards Tempranillo, 43% Newsom Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon, and 10% Newsom Vineyards Malbec. The wine spent 21 months in French Oak before being bottled in November 2019. The result is an exceptional, big, robust, old world red wine. The 2017 Ignis pairs well with grilled steak, tenderloin, scalloped potatoes, and roasted vegetables.

The Kuhlman Cellars Vina Vita Wine Club had early access to Ignis. Ignis is available to the public starting today. Shipping is included with online purchases over $89. For more information, visit kuhlmancellars.com
