Adobe Road Downtown Epic Riverfront Groundbreaking

PETALUMA, CA 1 NOV 2019—Adobe Road Winery celebrated its groundbreaking ceremony October 24 on the Petaluma riverfront. The site—located on the corner of 1st St. and C St.—is set to open Fall 2020. The 16,000-square-foot facility will include a beautiful waterfront tasting room with outdoor fire pits, outdoor pizza oven, a 120-person banquet facility, upstairs VIP area and party deck, a motorsports museum and more. CEO Kevin Buckler was joined by Petaluma’s Mayor, members of the City Council, Chamber of Commerce, investors, the construction team, wine club members and Adobe Road staff to celebrate this momentous groundbreaking in the downtown.

Kevin and his wife, CFO Debra Buckler, opened Adobe Road Winery in the heart of Sonoma County in 2002. Their goal—to craft wines that exemplify the true essence of California’s most revered winegrowing regions and eventually to build out a winery project that would be fun, innovative, exciting and cutting edge. Looking at the Napa/Sonoma winery landscape, Kevin and Debra decided on downtown Petaluma for their new winery. “We really worked hard on our research and decided on Petaluma to put the dream of our beautiful new winery project there in the downtown area. We fell in love with the Petaluma community, it’s old world feel and authenticity and it just feels right for us.”

Guests were treated to Adobe Road’s limited-release wines & barrel samples, Thistle Meats artisan cheese & charcuterie, Acre coffee & cider along with Keny’s donuts.

Kevin Buckler stated, “We can make a difference here… it’s cool and the timing is perfect. It’s not very often that a small business, or winery could potentially help guide a small amount of directional strategy to a city. Yet in this case, I think we can—and in a very positive way. We are the first winery in the downtown area right when Petaluma is going through its big economic redevelopment. We are constructing the facility in such a way that it will appeal to a lot of different groups, including people that might not have ever come to Petaluma. Petaluma has been coming on strong and we want to continue to put it on the map and in many ways even present it as a fantastic and easier alternative to other areas in the wine country.”

Adobe Road’s winery and entertainment complex is the latest investment on the riverfront, an area of downtown Petaluma that has experienced renewed interest and recognizes the need for redevelopment. “Your support is what’s making this happen and your support for other things like this are what’s going to continue to make Petaluma evolve because we need to turn that river around,” said Petaluma Mayor Teresa Barrett. “It’s such a wonderful event coming to a groundbreaking of a winery, a wine tasting room and a race car showroom. Who else has that? This is wonderful.”

Another Petaluma dignitary—Onita Pellegrini, CEO of the Petaluma Chamber of Commerce, expresses her support, “There’s an energy in Petaluma we haven’t seen in a long, long time. Partners like Adobe Road is what’s bringing it. This is going to be a tourist destination but it’s also going to be a community place. Thank you for trusting in Petaluma.”
