Oregon Chardonnay house honored at VinePair’s Next Wave Awards in New York City

October 23, 2026 (New York) — 00 Wines received the Winery of the Year award last night at VinePair’s 2026 Next Wave Awards in New York City. VinePair announced this year’s honorees on October 15. The Next Wave Awards, launched in 2021, recognize wine, beer, and spirits professionals who are moving the drinks industry toward a more creative and sustainable future.
Chris and Kathryn Hermann founded 00 Wines in 2015 with a singular ambition: to make Chardonnay in Oregon that stands not only with the greatest white Burgundies, but also the pantheon of the great wines of the world.
Since its first vintage in 2015, 00 has used an oxidative approach to Chardonnay, a historic method that Burgundy’s most traditional and storied domaines practiced before the advent of modern winemaking. Chris coined the term “Black Chardonnay” to describe this technique in 2015. 00 wines have earned high scores from The Wine Advocate, Vinous, Decanter, James Suckling, and Jeb Dunnuck including a 100 point score for the 2021 Richard Hermann Cuvee Pinot Noir. Decanter’s Charles Curtis MW has compared the wines to Coche-Dury, and James Suckling named the 00 Freya Hermann Cuvée the only Oregon Chardonnay on his Top 100 USA Wines of 2019.
Today, 00 makes primarily Chardonnay and small lots of Pinot Noir in three of the world’s great regions: the Willamette Valley, Burgundy, and Champagne. 00 Wines are now on the lists at Michelin-starred restaurants around the world including Black Swan in Beijing, The French Laundry in Yountville, and Forum and The Chairman in Hong Kong.
“Our mission is to craft wines with zero shortcuts and zero compromises, and to push the future of Chardonnay forward. In the Willamette Valley, we are leading a growing Chardonnay revolution. Thank you to VinePair for this recognition.” – Chris Hermann, Founder, 00 Wines
“We are digital first. We don’t have an estate, a chef, an allocation list, or a tasting room, so we focus entirely on the farmers and the cellar, and we ship our wines around the globe. VinePair speaks to the next generation of wine lovers through its digital and video content. That is exactly the audience we make our wines for.” – Kathryn Hermann, General Director, 00 Wines
