Decanter Awards Platinum Medal to Bottega Brunello di Montalcino

Only five other Tuscan red wines received the same recognition

June 23, 2026 — At the 2026 edition of the Decanter World Wine Awards, Brunello di Montalcino Il Vino dei Poeti Bottega, vintage 2020, was awarded the Platinum medal with an outstanding score of 97/100.

This is a highly prestigious achievement that honors one of the finest red wines produced by Bottega S.p.A., which vinifies in Montalcino not only its premium Brunello but also Rosso di Montalcino.

The Platinum medal represents the competition’s highest accolade and was awarded to only six Tuscan red wines: three Brunello di Montalcino, two Chianti, and one Vino Nobile di Montepulciano.

Bottega, headquartered in Bibano di Godega (Treviso) with a winery in Valgatara (Valpolicella), also received two Gold medals in the same competition: one for Cartizze Valdobbiadene DOCG Il Vino dei Poeti and one for Amarone DOCG Il Vino degli Dei (both scoring 90/100).

The Decanter World Wine Awards (DWWA), first held in 2004 and now in its 23rd edition, is the world’s largest wine competition. Organized by Decanter, the leading international wine media brand, the DWWA is globally recognized as a benchmark for wine quality, thanks to the exceptional expertise of its judges, its international scope, and its rigorous and transparent judging process.

In numerical terms, this year’s edition featured nearly 17,000 wines from 58 countries, evaluated by 245 judges representing 35 nations.

Brunello di Montalcino Il Vino dei Poeti Bottega, vintage 2020, is a full-bodied wine with an alcohol content of 14.5% ABV. It displays an intense ruby red color with subtle garnet reflections. On the nose, it is distinctive, intense, and persistent, offering notes of wild berries and violet, moss, spices, and aromatic wood, alongside hints of vanilla, jam, and a balsamic finish.

On the palate, it is warm, structured, robust, complex, and smooth, with elegant tannins perfectly balanced with the alcohol content. The finish is pleasant and long-lasting, enhancing the overall tasting experience.

An excellent meditation wine, it pairs beautifully with rich dishes such as game (especially wild boar and pheasant), red meats, rib steak, mushrooms, white truffle, and aged cheeses.
