A celebration of life for Jake, who was the Managing Partner of Peachy Canyon Winery, to be held Friday, Feb. 27

January 1, 1976 – January 7, 2026
February 2, 2026 (Paso Robles, CA) — Jacob Russell Beckett, known to nearly everyone as Jake, passed away on January 7, 2026, leaving behind a legacy defined by generosity, humor, curiosity, grit, and a deep, unmistakable love for people. Jake was truly one of a kind—endlessly curious, quick to laugh, always prepared, and deeply devoted to the people he loved.
Born on January 1, 1976, in Oceanside, California, Jake grew up with an adventurous spirit and a creative soul. As a child, he was known for his love of animals—snakes, rats, tarantulas, and countless “critters” found their way into his room—and for his boundless energy. Under the direction of his mother, Nancy, Jake participated in performances and fashion shows. He also surfed, skateboarded, skied and snowboarded, and later played football at Paso Robles High School, graduating with the Class of 1994.
A period of his high school career was spent with his family in Mexico, where days were filled with learning, building, working on their home, and playing on the beach. Those experiences left a lasting mark, shaping his curiosity, independence, and love of simple pleasures like being in nature, hard work, and time together. Ever an observer of culture, people and their interactions, it was natural that Jake earned a degree in anthropology from Stanislaus State and wasted no time embracing life and adventure, traveling from South America to Europe, Africa, Indonesia, Asia and countless returns to Mexico.
As an adult, Jake approached everything with full commitment. Whatever he took on—work, farming, hunting, motorcycles, family, or a new hobby—he gave it 110 percent. He loved to tinker, fix, build, and improve and there was little Jake couldn’t repair, modify, grow, pickle, ferment, can, or figure out. He had a remarkable memory, could recall conversations and quotes from decades past, and delighted in delivering a perfectly timed wisecrack or an off-color joke.
Jake kept careful inventories of everything from firewood to homemade hot sauce and canned tomatoes, and when the woodpile was full, he’d smile and say, “We’re rich!” He loved being ready for anything, including, as he liked to joke, the “zombie apocalypse.” Tough and resilient, Jake broke more bones than most people could count, yet still ran multiple half marathons and continued riding dirt bikes throughout his life.
In 2004, Jake married his first wife, Dawn, in Paso Robles, and together they welcomed three children, Braydon, Logan, and Charlotte. It was important to Jake to create a ranch home for his kids that reflected his own childhood—one where they could explore the world around them, raise animals, build, dream, swim, hike, and ride motorcycles.
Jake’s creativity and drive were central to his life and legacy. Alongside his brother Josh, Jake worked for their parents at Peachy Canyon Winery, eventually taking over the family business and helping it grow into, and remain, a respected multi-generational Paso Robles winery that has truly stood the test of time. Inspired by their father’s entrepreneurial spirit, Jake and Josh also created Chronic Cellars, a brand born from creativity, passion, humor, and hard work. Their personalities were woven into every part of it, from the wine to the labels to the irreverent spirit that set it apart. After selling Chronic Cellars, Jake returned his full-time attention to Peachy Canyon, proud of both what they built and what endured.
Above all else, Jake was devoted to his family. After meeting Jennifer later in life, they married in 2021, and Jake lovingly embraced her children as his own, building a blended family that he was proud of. It was clear to all that he was madly in love with Jen – holding her hand whenever he could, enjoying constant conversation with her, and speaking about her with admiration whenever she wasn’t nearby. They were inseparable from the beginning.
Jake found peace in the places he loved most: his ranch, on a tractor, in his garden, on the porch at the Baja house, and relaxing at his mountain cabin, where he and Jen were married. He loved music, especially reggae, was a great dancer, and could just as easily pick up a hand drum and join in. He was a natural wordsmith, constantly inventing phrases, lyrics, wine names, and clever twists of language that reflected his unique view of the world.
Friends remember Jake as a great neighbor, a loyal friend, and someone who approached life with humility and humor. Whether helping his parents, working on ranch projects, riding motorcycles with friends, fishing in his lucky pants, or patiently teaching his kids the respect and responsibility of hunting, Jake was fully present and deeply caring.
Jake passed away suddenly following his 50th birthday while in Mexico, a place he loved and that helped shape who he was. One of Jake’s favorite sayings, passed down from his Uncle Mike, was, “A wise man makes his own luck.” Jake lived that belief every day.
Jake is survived by his wife, Jennifer Beckett; children Braydon, Logan, and Charlotte; stepdaughters Meadow and Amelia; parents Doug and Nancy Beckett; brother Josh Beckett and sister-in-law Gibsey Beckett; and his many beloved nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind a wide circle of friends who were lucky enough to be welcomed into his life and kept there.
Jake cared deeply about everyone and loved with his whole heart. He was genuine, down to earth, funny, and entirely unforgettable. We are all better for having known him, and immeasurably lucky to have been loved by him.
A Celebration of Life honoring Jake will be held on Friday, February 27, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Riboli Winemaking Facility, located at 2017 Wisteria Lane, Paso Robles, California. Family and friends are warmly invited to gather, share stories, laughter, and memories, and celebrate a life so well lived. Please kindly RSVP.
