Hope Family Wines Introduces “Tufera Farms” Vineyard & Truffle Orchard

Leading Paso Robles Winery Acquires Premier Cabernet Sauvignon Site in Creston District AVA

August 7, 2025 (Paso Robles, CA) — Hope Family Wines today introduced Tufera Farms, a new estate vineyard acquisition in the Creston District AVA of Paso Robles. The property will also serve as a source for organic truffles grown on specially cultivated Holly Oak trees and packaged by Hope Provisions, the culinary arm of Hope Family Wines.

“This is a special property that brings us full circle in Paso Robles,” said Owner-Winemaker Austin Hope. “My parents started growing grapes and other crops here nearly 50 years ago. Tufera Farms deepens those roots and adds a new dimension to our local farming heritage.”

Formerly known as Creston Valley Vineyard, Tufera Farms has been a longtime source for Austin Hope Cabernet Sauvignon, America’s fastest-growing luxury Cabernet Sauvignon. It now becomes the second estate vineyard owned by Hope Family Wines, joining the Hope family’s original estate in the Templeton Gap District. Both vineyards are SIP (Sustainability in Practice) Certified and are now being converted to regenerative organic farming.

The vineyard spans 250 acres that were first planted in the year 2000. Hope Family Wines began purchasing fruit from the site in 2007 and later planted contracted blocks of Cabernet Sauvignon and Saint-Macaire. The vineyard also includes blocks of Merlot, Petit Verdot and Petite Sirah. The property spans a total of 328 acres with room for expanded vineyard plantings in the future.

“The Cabernet Sauvignon from this vineyard consitently ranks among the best lots we produce year after year,” Hope said. “It is a key component of Austin Hope Cabernet Sauvignon, and when the vineyard became available we jumped at the opportunity to acquire it. I believe that our viticultural team can now take this estate to another level.”

A Singular Terroir

Tufera Farms resides on high, rolling terrain in Creston Valley at an elevation of 1,200 feet—directly in the path of daily marine breezes that flow inland from the Templeton Gap, a notch in the coastal mountains. The soils are infused with calcareous sea bed and pebbly alluvium, providing excellent drainage and mineral composition. Reddish-pink hues also speak to an iron-rich volcanic influence.

Director of Vineyards Stasi Seay

“The Cabernet Sauvignon fruit that we get from Tufera Farms is super consistent with deep varietal flavors,” said Director of Vineyards Stasi Seay. “The soil structure creates naturally balanced vine canopies, and the weather patterns provide perfect physiological ripeness to create a quintessential Paso Cabernet Sauvignon.”

In addition to traditional Bordeaux varieties, Tufera Farms includes five acres of Saint-Macaire planted by Hope Family Wines under contract in 2019. Saint-Macaire is an obscure red variety that has been called “the lost grape of Bordeaux.” The winery’s first bottling of Saint-Macaire will come from the 2023 vintage and will be available later this year at the Austin Hope & Treana Tasting Cellar and Hope on Park, both in Paso Robles.

A Paso Robles Truffière

Tufera Farms now also serves as a truffière, or truffle orchard, for Hope Family Wines. The previous owner planted 10 acres of Holly Oaks specifically for truffle growing, and the orchard is now rounding into form. The name “Tufera” is the Latin word for tuber.

The truffles are grown organically and are harvested annually starting toward the end of the year and into February, all with the help of specially trained truffle dogs. The resulting truffle products will be incorporated into Hope Provisions, a line of culinary offerings that includes estate-grown olive oil and honey.

“The truffle orchard is a happy inheritance that takes me back to my childhood, when my parents were farming more than grapes,” Hope said. “While wine grapes predominate in Paso Robles, there’s a rich history of agriculture here that includes almonds, olives, apples and grains. Truffles are part of a new wave of artisanal agriculture that is gaining ground in Paso Robles, and we are excited to be a part of it.”
