August 1, 2025 (Santa Barbara, CA) — Rideau Vineyard, now in its 28th year of producing estate driven Rhone-varietal wines of beauty and consequence in Santa Barbara County, will debut its first canned wine, a rosé, on August 16th, in celebration of National Relaxation Day, which unfolds beginning August 15th. This light, casual rosé, aptly named Don’t Cry Over Spilled Rosé, is made entirely from Syrah fruit. Its name is a reminder that life’s spills, accidents and imperfections are part of the journey and can be met with resilience and joy. The bear on the can is a nod to bear sightings at Rideau’s newest estate vineyard on Foxen Canyon Road vineyard, the source of the Syrah fruit for this wine, as well as to the iconic California state flag.
The debut of Don’t Cry Over Spilled Rosé coincides with National Relaxation Day weekend, and will be feted at Rideau Vineyard, with a public celebration on Saturday, August 16th. The celebration, held on the historic Rideau Vineyard estate just off the Alamo Pintado Corridor, between Los Olivos and Solvang, will run from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with the first 100 attendees receiving a surprise pink gift. Guests will be able to lounge and relax, or play a whole host of fun, engaging games, including Giant Jenga and Cornhole. A giant swing will be available for those in the mood, or guests can simply relax and take a deep breath underneath one of Rideau’s ancient California Oaks. The whole family is encouraged to attend.
While enjoying live music played throughout the day by talented artist, Shennie Smith, guests can enjoy delicious foods, including smashed burgers, lobster rolls, pizzas, charcuterie and vegan platters, and more. A giant, wooden pink Adirondack chair and silly, fun props will appeal to guests who’d like to take a photo of the event back home with them.
“Our guests wanted something light, easy, and lower in alcohol perfect for relaxed, on-the-go moments,” says Martin Gauthier, Owner & General Manager of Rideau Vineyard. “With our heritage of warm and welcoming hospitality, launching this rosé on National Relaxation Day weekend felt like the perfect fit. It’s all about making it easier to unwind and enjoy the moment wherever you are”
Since its founding in 1997, Rideau Vineyard has been the wine lover’s home-away-from-home. Don’t Cry Over Spilled Rosé is intended to reinforce Rideau Vineyard’s long heritage of quality, connection and warm hospitality, delivered with ease, and always in an inclusive fashion. Everyone is always welcomed at Rideau.
The newest product launch reinforces Rideau’s strong brand identity, and its commitment to sustainability is reflected in Don’t Cry Over Spilled Rosé cans, which are recyclable and reduce waste, while providing customers with on-the-go convenience.
National Relaxation Day was founded in 1985 by fourth-grader Sean Moeller. During an interview with The Des Moines Register he suggested people shouldn’t do anything of real value on that day, adding that cleaning and working are not a part of relaxation.
Entry to the event and all games are free. Food and wine will be available for purchase. If guests would like a formal tasting and winery visit, they are encouraged to make reservations. Otherwise, walk-ins are welcomed throughout the day. Don’t Cry Over Spilled Rosé will retail for $ 35.00 a four-pack, or $ 10.00 a can/ 250 ml.
