July 30, 2025 (St. Helena, CA) — Nichelini Family Winery is proud to announce it has been awarded a Golden Bear Award and named Golden State Winery of the Year, Highest Top 10 Awards at the 2025 California State Fair, the longest-running wine competition in the nation.

This remarkable honor was presented to Nichelini for earning the highest overall scores across their top ten entries in this year’s competition. Of the 16 wines submitted, all received medals — including seven Double Golds, one Gold, six Silvers and two Bronze. Notably, the 2021 Merlot Reserve was named Best of California, and the 2023 Primitivo earned Best of Region – Red, Napa Valley.
“Five of our Double Golds scored 99 points, and two scored 98 — a true testament to the quality and consistency of our wines,” said Aimée Sunseri, UC Davis graduate and the family’s seventh Nichelini winemaker. “This award recognizes not just several great vintages, but the heart, legacy, and dedication that go into every bottle we produce.”
Located in the picturesque hills of Chiles (Chī-ells) Valley, Nichelini Family Winery is the oldest continuously family-owned winery in Napa Valley, established in 1890 by Anton and Caterina Nichelini. Now celebrating its 135th anniversary and consecutive harvest, the winery is still family-run — with three generations actively involved — and operates on the very land where it all began.

“We are humbled by this recognition,” said Phil Sunseri, President of the winery and third-generation grape grower. “It honors the hard work of our ancestors and the vision they passed down. We’re grateful to our incredible winemaking and vineyard team, and to the family, friends, and supporters who make this journey possible.”
Tastings are hosted at the historic family property, which features original stone cellars and a hand-built Roman wine press. Guests can visit Thursday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., or shop online at www.nicheliniwinery.com.
