A Bold Commitment to Sustainability Yields Tangible Results for the Planet

Salinas, CA – April 1, 2025 – Scheid Family Wines continues to be a leader in sustainability efforts, supporting innovative, eco-friendly practices while also tackling industry headwinds. This Earth Month, the company highlights its 100% wind-powered winery, lightweight glass imitative, Bee Friendly Farming certification, and the national launch of Grandeur Cabernet Sauvignon—a certified organic wine that prioritizes consumer transparency.
100% Wind-Powered Wines
Scheid Family Wines’ investment in renewable energy has yielded substantial results. Since installation, the company’s wind turbine has generated 28.57 million kWh of clean energy, avoiding over 21 tons of CO2 emissions—the equivalent to taking almost 4,500 gas-powered cars off the road for one year, or to the carbon sequestered by over 19,000 acres of U.S. forest annually. The company is the only large-scale U.S. winery whose operations are 100% powered by wind.

Lighter Glass, Lighter Footprint
Through its lightweight glass initiative, the company has removed 1 million pounds of glass weight from shipping, cutting emissions while protecting wine quality. These durable, 100% recyclable bottles minimize environmental impact without compromising product integrity. “From harnessing the power of the wind to making thoughtful packaging choices, we’re dedicated to reducing our carbon footprint while crafting exceptional wines,” said Heidi Scheid, Executive Vice President at Scheid Family Wines. “The idea that high-quality wine needs a heavy bottle is outdated. At Scheid Family Wines, sustainability isn’t just a commitment – it’s a responsibility.”
Bee Friendly Farming Certification
Scheid’s White Flower Vineyard earned Bee Friendly Farming Certification in late 2024 from Pollinator Partnership, recognizing its efforts to protect pollinators through habitat conservation and promoting biodiversity.
Grandeur Organic Cabernet Sauvignon, a Brand Leader in Consumer Transparency Scheid Family Wines also proudly introduces nationally Grandeur Cabernet Sauvignon, a certified organic wine crafted in harmony with nature. Inspired by a native bee colony found at their White Flower Vineyard, Grandeur features a bee on its label and provides full ingredient transparency on its label, meeting growing consumer demand for clarity in food and beverage choices.
“With Grandeur, we’re raising the bar for transparency in wine. Today’s consumers want to know what’s in their glass, just as they do with their food. By crafting a certified organic Cabernet Sauvignon and listing ingredients on the label, we’re embracing a future where quality, sustainability, and honesty go hand in hand.”
Commitment to a Greener Future Scheid Family Wines continues to blend environmental responsibility with exceptional winemaking, ensuring sustainability and quality remain at the core of its mission.
