Terlato Wine Group Hires Corey Garner as Winemaker for Federalist Brand

RUTHERFORD, CA (June 6, 2024) – Established in 1938, fourth-generation family-owned and operated Terlato Wines today announced the appointment of Corey Garner to the role of Winemaker for their highly successful brand, Federalist.

Originally launched as “America’s Craft Wine” in 2012, Federalist was created to be a bold, American-made wine offered at an affordable price point to enable consumers to celebrate everyday life.  Since its inception, the Federalist brand continues to dominate in the $14-18.99 price tier, delivering impressive growth metrics year on year.

Sandra LeDrew, COO of Terlato Wine Group said, “This is a pivotal time for Corey to join the Federalist production team. This brand is a very important part of our portfolio, and we have very high expectations for its future growth and success in the market. After conducting extensive consumer research, we have revolutionized the Federalist’s packaging and modernized the flavor profiles across the full range.  We couldn’t be more pleased to have Corey on board as we start our new journey with this significant brand.”

Growing up in the Silicon Valley, Garner’s journey into winemaking began unexpectedly, diverging from a trajectory towards medicine.  During a trip to a winery in Temecula, California, as part of an economic botany class, her perspective shifted. Witnessing the intricate fusion of science and winemaking ignited a newfound interest. This revelation led her to eventually return to Wine Country after college, where she found work at the Marimar Estate tasting room in the Russian River Valley, reigniting her love for wine.

Garner’s career trajectory solidified as she immersed herself in the world of winemaking. Starting as a lab technician at Ferrari-Carano Vineyards in Sonoma County, she honed her skills in the wine lab, eventually transitioning to Frank Family Vineyards in Napa Valley. There, she quickly climbed the ranks from enologist to assistant winemaker, focusing on scientific education.

The decision to join Federalist was an obvious choice for Garner.  “Being family-owned was an important factor in making my decision to join Terlato Wine Group, and the people I met in the process were incredibly kind and welcoming.  I’m looking forward to working with such a dynamic and experienced team as I apply my expertise and passion in crafting outstanding wines that marry tradition with innovation.”

Garner resides in Napa Valley and will report to Gaspar Roby, Vice President of Winemaking and Viticulture.
