With Tasting Rooms Closed During COVID-19 New Napa Valley Vintages Debut via “Wine Thru”

A Socially-Distanced Pick Up at Press Restaurant in St. Helena

(ST. HELENA, CA—Friday, May 15, 2020). For nearly 15 years, PRESS Restaurant has been a place for locals, winemakers, vintners, and guests from around the world to experience current and older vintages of Napa Valley wines going back to the 1950s. The wineries and the restaurant have mutually supported each other over the years, and it’s this sense of community that’s at the heart of everything PRESS does.

Samantha Rudd, vintner of Rudd Estate and owner of PRESS, was torn when deciding whether she should release the new vintage of Crossroads wines during these uncertain times from Rudd Estate, but knew that she wasn’t alone in this regard in Napa Valley. In that light, she decided that what was needed was to release these wines in a different way, while helping other wineries in the Napa Valley do the same. Samantha Rudd stated that, “We believe wines should be released when they are ready, even as the world faces this challenging point in time. The beauty in wine is its timelessness and our ability to take a long-term outlook toward brighter days.” Echoing Rudd’s thinking, winemaker Dan Petroski said, “Today’s current condition isn’t just another glass of wine for the Napa community to share together. The support we provide each other will allow us to emerge from this stronger when we open our doors and come closer together over a meal.”

In that spirit, PRESS Wine Thru launched in early April as the companion to the PRESS Drive Thru to feature new release wines from Napa Valley wineries. Wine tastes are offered via a smaller format bottle to take home, and each week a different winery has been featured beginning with Crossroads by Rudd, and followed by Space Age by Josh Phelps, Massican by Dan Petroski, Wingspan, and Paper Planes.

Each new wine release tasting (via the small format bottle to go) is available with a $5 donation to the PRESS Employee Fund (limit 1 per person). 10% of the sales for each 750ml wine purchased are also donated towards the Fund. Pre-orders can be arranged at PRESS Drive Thru, and each Monday, a new wine release is announced via their Instagram.

PRESS has the largest collection of Napa Valley wines in the world. The all Napa Valley wine list celebrates current vintages as well as older wines going back over 50 years, and as a result, wine is very much at the core of PRESS. With over 1200 selections, the restaurant has become the ideal place to taste one’s way through the decades and deeply explore the U.S.’s most legendary wine-growing region.  PRESS is located at 587 St. Helena Highway, St. Helena, CA 94574.
