The guide to the world’s best places to drink wine now covers the most iconic winemaking region of them all: Burgundy. With the publication of 20 new Red Star recommendations spread across the French region, written by France Ambassador Alicia Dorey, Star Wine List has produced its first guide to wining and dining across Burgundy.
September 10, 2026 (Stockholm, Sweden) — Star Wine List is the international guide to the best places to drink wine, written by wine professionals with a deep understanding of their respective regions’ hospitality scenes – and what makes a good wine list. After joining the ambassador ranks in early 2026, Le Figaro journalist Alicia Dorey initially began assisting with Star Wine List’s coverage in the French capital, soon broadening her remit to include Provence (with a guide launched in July 2026), and now Burgundy – a place she credits with instilling her love of wine.
Though based in Paris, Dorey makes monthly visits to Burgundy as part of a busy travel schedule that sees her journey the globe on assignments. In an interview with Star Wine List, the writer observes that “a new scene has emerged” in Burgundy over recent years, complementing rather than competing with existing establishments.
“The dining scene long rested on a certain classicism,” she says. “… On the wine side, most cellar doors were difficult to open unless you knew someone, and the wines themselves were more standardised than they are today, and above all oakier.
“Then, in the space of a few years, everything shifted. As vineyard land prices exploded, a generation of growers from elsewhere had to invent new ways of establishing themselves. Unburdened by inheritance, free to make wines closer to the taste of the moment, they opened the region to a younger audience, and in their wake came new restaurants and wine bars with a point of view.”
Dorey’s 20 new Red Star recommendations have now been published on Star Wine List, forming a designated guide to the region. The full interview with Dorey can be found on the Star Wine List website and app.
