L’Angolo Estate: Where Thoughtful Winemaking Meets Meaningful Hospitality in Oregon’s Dundee Hills

July 29, 2026 — L’Angolo Estate represents the apex of a new generation of Willamette Valley wineries—one where exceptional wine is only part of the story. Founded by Chase Renton in the Dundee Hills AVA, L’Angolo Estate crafts small-lot estate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay inspired by the traditions of Burgundy while embracing the distinctive character of Oregon’s Willamette Valley. Guided by a philosophy of place, patience, authenticity and connection, the estate has become as well known for its thoughtful hospitality and sense of community as it is for its estate wines.

A Vision Rooted in Place

L’Angolo Estate begins with vintner Chase Renton. Inspired by the great wines of Italy and Burgundy and captivated by the diversity of Oregon’s Willamette Valley, Chase set out to create elegant, site-driven Pinot Noir and Chardonnay that speak transparently of place. In 2012, with the support of his parents, Lou and Hollings Renton, whose own appreciation for wine stretched back decades, he acquired a 25-acre property on the northern part of the Dundee Hills. The site, a former hazelnut orchard, required complete transformation. After clearing the land of the Pacific Northwest’s iconic blackberry bramble, Chase spent two years planting 20 acres of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, carefully matching rootstocks and clones to the property’s elevation, aspect and soils. His inaugural vintage followed in 2015, marking the beginning of a patient journey focused on quality. The winery follows an intentional and rare estate model, with its 20-acre vineyard, winery and tasting room—all situated on a single parcel. Every wine is estate-grown and produced exclusively from fruit harvested onsite.

“L’Angolo” is an Italian word meaning “the corner,” a tribute to Chase’s parents who first met on the corner of California and Battery Streets in San Francisco. That chance encounter, and the significance of the estate’s corner location in the Dundee Hills, inspired Chase to name the property L’Angolo Estate, and today the couple also remains involved in the winery. Their story serves as a constant reminder that life’s most meaningful moments often begin with a simple connection—a philosophy that continues to shape every aspect of the estate.

Situated on an east-facing hillside in the Dundee Hills AVA, the vineyard is planted to 16 acres of Pinot Noir and four acres of Chardonnay across 13 clone-specific blocks. The site is dominated by the region’s famed Jory soils, complemented by smaller sections of stonier Nekia soils that impose natural vine stress, resulting in highly concentrated, mineral-rich and ageworthy wines. Given the vineyard’s east-facing slope, the vines benefit from gentle morning sunlight that provides ample warmth and light while protecting the fruit from the harsher afternoon heat.

Since L’Angolo Estate’s inception, the vineyard has been dry farmed using 100 percent organic practices and has now reached an age where its vines consistently produce greater concentration, complexity and nuance. Rather than pursuing power, the wines emphasize texture, freshness and elegance—hallmarks of both the vineyard and of the combined vision of Director of Winemaking Chase Renton and Winemaker Tracy Kendall.

Winemaking: A New Chapter focused on Collaboration

Chase Renton’s appreciation for wine began at an early age through his parents, but it wasn’t until a semester abroad in Italy that he discovered his true calling. While attending Lynn University in Boca Raton, FL, Chase studied at Florence University of the Arts, where an introductory wine appreciation course sparked a passion that would ultimately shape his career. After earning his degree in psychology, he returned to Florence to study wine at the Apicius International School of Hospitality before signing up to work harvests across Europe and the United States.

His early experiences included working alongside some of the industry’s most respected producers, including Kosta Browne Winery in California, Mark Haisma and Pierre Naigeon in Burgundy and Isabelle Meunier in Oregon. These formative roles exposed Chase to a wide range of philosophies and techniques, helping to shape his thoughtful, site-driven approach to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

Since 2015, Chase has guided the evolution of the wines in tandem with the continued maturation of the Dundee Hills vineyard, allowing each vintage to reveal an increasingly nuanced expression of the estate.

Nearly a decade later, in 2024, respected Oregon winemaker Tracy Kendall joined the team, ushering in an exciting new chapter defined by collaboration. From the beginning, Chase and Tracy recognized a shared belief that exceptional wines are made long before the grapes reach the cellar. Both view winemaking as an extension of the vineyard, where thoughtful farming, close observation and an intimate understanding of each block lay the foundation for every bottle.

Chase contributes years of firsthand knowledge of L’Angolo Estate’s vineyard—its subtle variations, seasonal rhythms and continual evolution—while Tracy brings two decades of experience crafting some of the Willamette Valley’s most celebrated wines, including a decade-long stint most recently at Nicolas-Jay before launching her own brand, Folly of Man, alongside her husband in 2023. Together, they challenge one another’s ideas, continually evaluating every decision with the understanding that there is always another opportunity to learn, refine and elevate the wines. Rather than resting on past successes, they embrace a mindset of constant improvement, balancing the art of intuition with the science of viticulture and enology to unlock the fullest expression of each vintage.

Their shared philosophy has led to an even greater emphasis on regenerative and organic farming practices throughout the estate. Under Tracy’s guidance, L’Angolo has expanded the use of cover crops and other soil-building practices that promote biodiversity, improve vine health and strengthen the long-term resilience of the vineyard. In the cellar, that same philosophy translates to a restrained, minimal-intervention approach, allowing the fruit and the character of the Dundee Hills to speak with clarity and precision. Every decision is made to preserve the authenticity of place rather than impose a signature winemaking style.

The result is an exciting evolution: wines that continue to gain depth, texture, complexity and longevity with each vintage while remaining unmistakably expressive of L’Angolo Estate and the Dundee Hills. Building on that foundation, Chase and Tracy continue to push the estate forward, believing that great vineyards are never finished—they simply reveal more of themselves with every passing year. With each vintage, L’Angolo wines continue to evolve and they believe the estate’s finest wines are still to come.

Understated Elegance—The L’Angolo Portfolio

From its 20-acre vineyard situated in the northern section of the Dundee Hills, L’Angolo Estate produces a focused collection of wines that express the nuances of a single site. Each wine begins in the vineyard and is crafted with minimal intervention in the cellar. Native yeast fermentations, thoughtful use of stainless steel, concrete and large-format French oak tanks, along with restrained élevage in French oak, allow every bottling to reflect the vintage and the vineyard with purity, precision and understated elegance.

Each wine tells a distinct story. The Estate Chardonnay ($55) and Estate Pinot Noir ($58) represent the purest expression of the entire estate, serving as the foundation of the portfolio and capturing the site’s vibrant fruit, energy and sense of place.

Every vintage, however, a handful of barrels distinguish themselves. Certain barrels reveal an unexpected level of depth, texture and complexity that cause Chase and Tracy to pause and reconsider what is possible. Those exceptional barrels become the Reserve Chardonnay ($75) and Reserve Pinot Noir ($85), where extended élevage and a greater proportion of new French oak allow the wines to develop remarkable richness, ageability and luxurious mouthfeel while maintaining balance and elegance.

The Foudre Pinot Noir ($70) was born from Chase’s curiosity. In 2018, he acquired a large French oak foudre from a family-owned cooperage in the Rhône Valley, France, as an experiment to explore how large-format oak could shape Pinot Noir differently than traditional barrels. After spending approximately 12 months in the large-format vessel followed by four months in stainless steel, the wine emerges with extraordinary textural complexity and freshness, offering a distinctive expression that has become one of the estate’s signature bottlings.

At the pinnacle of the portfolio is Il Terzo ($105), meaning “the third” in Italian. This wine is sourced from the estate’s finest-performing block and a single Pinot Noir clone that best captures the character of the year. The wine also serves as a tribute to Chase’s father, Hollings Renton III, making it the estate’s most cherished Pinot Noir release. Family continues to inspire the winery’s wines through the release of the LuLu Chardonnay ($95), a forthcoming release named in honor of the most influential women in Chase’s life—his mother, Lou, and daughter Camila Lucia. Produced from fewer than six barrels, this incredibly limited Chardonnay represents Chase’s most personal white wine to date and, upon release, will be offered exclusively to wine club members. The winery also produces a Rosé of Pinot Noir which is exclusive to wine club members.

Perhaps the most personal and purpose-driven wine in the portfolio is Resilience Pinot Noir ($38), launched in 2026 in alignment with Mental Health Awareness Month. The limited-production Pinot Noir from L’Angolo Estate was created to help destigmatize conversations around mental wellness, particularly among men.

The label, which features Chase’s handwriting, draws inspiration from the Japanese art of kintsugi—the practice of repairing broken pottery with gold to celebrate, rather than conceal, the cracks that tell its story. In that same spirit, Resilience symbolizes the strength found through healing, transformation, and embracing imperfection as part of one’s journey.

Through this wine, Chase has transformed his own experiences with anxiety, depression and burnout into an opportunity to create meaningful impact. By sharing his story, he hopes to inspire more open and honest conversations around mental health while reminding others that vulnerability is not weakness, but resilience in action. In keeping with that mission, all proceeds benefit the Kevin Love Fund, the nonprofit organization founded by NBA Champion Kevin Love following his public on-court panic attack in 2018, helping expand access to mental health education, resources, and support. More information about Resilience can be found here.

Chase also makes wine internationally, launching a small Tuscan project, L’Ignoto, with friends in 2014 and acquiring vineyard holdings in Radda in Chianti in 2021. These wines are available for purchase in the L’Angolo Estate tasting room and to wine club members.

Connection by Design

At L’Angolo Estate, hospitality begins with a simple idea: people connect more deeply over great wine when they feel genuinely at home. That belief shapes everything at the estate—from the architecture and tasting experiences to the partnerships with local chefs and the charitable events hosted throughout the year. For Chase and his team, creating memorable wines has always gone hand in hand with creating meaningful experiences.

Designed by LEVER Architecture and opened in 2017, the estate’s 2,200-square-foot tasting room was conceived as a physical expression of the winery’s philosophy: understated, elegant, intentional and deeply connected to the land. Rather than creating a destination separate from the vineyard, the building immerses guests in it, allowing the architecture, surrounding landscape and wines to tell a unified story.

Inspired by the broad-canopied Oregon white oaks that define the Dundee Hills, two cantilevered roof structures frame the entrance before opening into a light-filled tasting room enclosed by expansive wood-and-glass walls. Large sliding doors dissolve the boundary between indoors and outdoors, opening to panoramic views of the estate vineyard, surrounding forest and winery below while naturally cooling the space during warmer months. A restrained material palette of Douglas fir, western red cedar and dark anodized aluminum reflects the quiet elegance found throughout the estate. Among the first indoor-outdoor hospitality spaces of its kind in the Willamette Valley, the tasting room received the 2017 IIDA Oregon Design Excellence Award for Best of Show and was later recognized internationally as a Gray Awards Hospitality finalist.

Inside, every detail is intended to make guests feel at home. Comfortable seating arranged around a central fireplace, a long dining room table on the other side, cozy Pendleton blankets and sweeping views of the Dundee Hills and the peak of Mt. Hood creates an atmosphere that feels more like gathering in someone’s home than visiting a traditional tasting room. Chase’s mom, an interior designer, insisted the space include a touch of whimsy, and so she sourced a giant acrylic hippo sculpture named Puddles by Jonathan Adler, which now sits above the fireplace. The different tasting spaces and intentional design encourage conversation, connection and lingering over a shared bottle of wine—reflecting Chase’s belief that some of life’s most memorable moments happen around the table.

That philosophy extends naturally to the estate’s hospitality program. The signature Aperitivo Hour tasting ($60/person) is inspired by the warmth and conviviality of Italian wine culture. Guests are invited to enjoy a guided tasting of five estate wines accompanied by a thoughtfully curated antipasto selection, creating an experience that is as much about hospitality and connection as it is about exceptional wine.

Since welcoming Estate Director Galen Hegarty in 2025, L’Angolo Estate has continued to expand its vision of hospitality. Drawing on more than two decades of experience in Napa Valley and the Willamette Valley, Hegarty has shaped a program rooted in collaboration, bringing together the region’s best chefs, winemakers, farmers, and artisans to create experiences that celebrate the broader community. Through pop-up dinners and Aperitivo Takeovers with beloved local restaurants such as Café Olli, Café Rowan, Larder Provisions and Fillmore Trattoria, L’Angolo Estate highlights the natural connection between wine and food while fostering collaborations that celebrate the people and businesses shaping Oregon wine country. These gatherings reflect the estate’s belief that hospitality is more than welcoming guests to the property—it’s about supporting local businesses, fostering relationships and creating opportunities for people to come together around the table.

For Chase, his family and his team, hospitality also means giving back to the greater community. Shortly after L’Angolo Estate was established, Chase was diagnosed with cancer. Following surgery and chemotherapy, he entered remission with a renewed commitment to using the winery as a place for connection and purpose. Chase began hosting charitable events benefiting the Children’s Cancer Association, where he first met NBA champions Channing Frye and Kevin Love. In 2018 and 2019, Chase and Channing hosted the “Give Joy Get Joy” fundraiser at L’Angolo Estate, raising more than $40,000. Two years later, their friendship led to the founding of Chosen Family Wines, inspired by the idea that the strongest relationships are often built over a shared meal and a bottle of wine. Today, L’Angolo continues to champion philanthropy through events such as its annual Sip & Support fundraiser with retired U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team standout Shannon Boxx, benefiting the Lupus Foundation of America, the KIDS Center in Bend, Oregon, and the Children’s Cancer Association. These initiatives reinforce the estate’s belief that hospitality is about creating meaningful connections that extend well beyond the tasting room.

Today, the tasting room serves as the heart of the estate—a place where thoughtful architecture, warm hospitality, exceptional wine and genuine community come together to create one of Oregon’s most distinctive winery experiences. The tasting room is open daily, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., by appointment. Reservations can be made via Tock, by emailing wine@langoloestate.com or by calling the winery (503)538-7953. L’Angolo Estate is located just outside of Newberg, at 18830 NE Williamson Rd.
