“Marna del Bacio” a Pure Expression of the Valdobbiadene DOCG Appellation, Rooted in Rock and Steep Slopes

July 28, 2026 (Farra di Soligo, Italy) — On the steep hillsides of San Pietro di Barbozza, where vines cling to exposed rock and slopes reach extreme gradients, Marna del Bacio takes shape as a precise expression of place within the Valdobbiadene DOCG appellation. This Extra Brut reflects a landscape defined by altitude, light and the physical presence of stone, translating it into a wine of clarity and tension.

The vineyard lies within the municipality of Valdobbiadene, on a small parcel of around two hectares between 300 and 350 meters above sea level. Here, slopes approach 80 percent, making mechanization impossible and requiring entirely manual work in the vineyard, a practice that continues to define this area.

The name “Bacio” identifies one of the most regarded sites in the village, a narrow stretch of land historically recognized for its quality. The soils are marked by calcareous marls and exposed Biancone rock, which contribute to the wine’s pronounced mineral profile. At the same time, strong day to night temperature variation preserves aromatic definition in the Glera grapes, while the east to west exposure ensures even ripening throughout the season.

In the glass, Marna del Bacio reveals a pale straw yellow color with subtle green reflections and a fine, persistent perlage. The nose is clean and focused, with notes of white flowers and green apple. On the palate, the wine is dry and linear, combining freshness with a distinct savory edge that drives a long, precise finish. The texture is supported by a creamy foam, characteristic of the Martinotti method and essential to the overall balance of this Extra Brut style.

Its profile makes it naturally suited to contemporary pairing, from raw seafood and lightly cooked fish to fresh cheeses and simple, seasonal dishes.

Founded in 1984 in Col San Martino, Andreola has developed a clear identity rooted in the interpretation of steep hillside vineyards across the Valdobbiadene DOCG appellation, where the morphology of the land requires a fully manual approach at every stage of vineyard work. In these conditions, precision is not only a technical choice but a necessity, shaped by daily interaction with the slopes, the soils and the climate.

The winery’s philosophy is based on a continuous dialogue between tradition and innovation, where deep knowledge of the territory is supported by careful, evolving winemaking practices. This approach allows each vineyard to be read in its specificity, without forcing expression, but rather guiding it toward clarity and balance. The focus on the Rive, in particular, reflects a commitment to highlighting the diversity of micro areas within the appellation, each defined by its own combination of altitude, exposure and soil composition.

Within this framework, Marna del Bacio represents a coherent synthesis of Andreola’s way of working. It originates from a site where the relationship between vine and environment is especially evident, and where manual labour becomes the tool through which this relationship is preserved. The choice of an Extra Brut style reinforces this intention, allowing the structural and mineral components of the wine to emerge with transparency, without superfluous elements.

More broadly, the wine reflects a production philosophy that sees quality as the result of attentive, incremental work rather than intervention. From vineyard management to the final stages in the cellar, every step is directed toward maintaining integrity, preserving freshness and enhancing texture. In this sense, Marna del Bacio is not conceived as a singular statement, but as part of an ongoing exploration of the Valdobbiadene DOCG appellation, where each wine contributes to a larger narrative built around place, method and continuity.
