Produced exclusively from 100% estate-grown fruit, Cimento combines geology, climate, and human intention to create a rare and immersive expression of place
April 22, 2026 (Walla Walla Valley, OR) — Cimento, a premier estate-driven wine brand dedicated to producing limited-production, terroir-expressive wines from The Rocks District of Milton-Freewater in the Walla Walla Valley, Oregon, is redefining the conversation around American luxury wine. Through an uncompromising focus on craftsmanship, connection, and grapes sourced entirely from estate vineyards in The Rocks District, Cimento offers a rare and immersive expression of place, where geology, climate, and human intention come together to create wines of unmistakable identity. The name, which comes from the ‘Accademia del Cimento,’ a 1600s scientific society that altered how humans view the natural world, means ‘to experiment.’ Their motto is, ‘Provando e Reprovando’ that translates to prove and reprove.

Spanning 3,600 acres, The Rocks District American Viticultural Area (AVA) is one of the most singular wine-growing regions in the world. Rather than simply a geographic boundary, The Rocks District is a geologic boundary, making it one of two in the world (and the only one in the US) comprising a single soil series. Cimento benefits from this truly distinctive foundation shaped by the ancient flow of the Walla Walla River. Over time, the river deposited basalt-rich cobblestones, eroded from the Blue Mountains, creating the unique Freewater series soils that define the region. These coarse, well-drained soils encourage deep vine rooting and naturally regulate vine vigor, while the dark basalt stones absorb and radiate heat, promoting optimal ripening and the early development of key growth stages. This dynamic environment enhances the concentration of phenolic compounds and imparts a distinctive mineral character to the grapes, setting Cimento apart with wines that vividly express this exceptional site.
Recognizing the extraordinary potential of this terroir and the unique opportunity to create world-class wines, founders David Wanek, Andy Reiner, and Jeff Bond established Walla Walla Land Company in 2018 to thoughtfully acquire and farm land across the region. Their properties reflect their dedication to heritage sites within The Rocks District and Walla Walla Valley. With more than 440 acres under stewardship, including over 220 acres within The Rocks District, the team maintains complete control over farming, ensuring that every bottle reflects the integrity of the land. Walla Walla Land Company partners with vintners who share their vision of quality, integrity, and dedication to making remarkable wines that belong on the world stage and can stand the test of time.
Cimento is the estate expression of this vision, grown and produced exclusively from 100% estate-grown fruit and designed to capture the singular fingerprint of each vineyard and vintage. The portfolio focuses on both Bordeaux and Rhône varietals, with current and forthcoming releases including Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Malbec, and Rhône white wines, reflecting the diversity and potential of the region. Production remains intentionally limited, with an emphasis on low yields, hand-farming, and sustainable practices that center around vine health at all costs. In a landscape defined by extremes, this meticulous approach is essential to achieving wines that are both powerful and elegant.
“From the beginning, we believed this region had the potential to stand alongside the great wine regions of the world. What drew us here was its singularity. There is an energy to this land that is both raw and refined, and with Cimento, we’re not only capturing that in the glass, but creating a way for people to experience it, to connect through it, and to be part of something that feels both rare and deeply personal.” — David Wanek, co-founder of Cimento
Beyond the wines themselves, Cimento is designed as a lifestyle experience as much as a wine label. With a deliberately curated network of collectors, tastemakers, and partners, the brand fosters a sense of intimacy and discovery, offering access to private tastings, events, and experiences that celebrate wine as a catalyst for connection. As the brand continues to evolve, its mission remains clear: to elevate The Rocks District of Milton-Freewater on the global stage while creating wines and experiences that are as distinctive as the land from which they come.
