The Alchemists’ Garden to Host The Alchemists’ Paradox: A Rhône & Bordeaux Wine Dinner Experience

April 16, 2026 (Paso Robles, CA)The Alchemists’ Garden will host The Alchemists’ Paradox on May 14, an intimate wine dinner exploring the dynamic relationship between two of the world’s most influential wine traditions, Rhône and Bordeaux. Reservations are now available here.

In collaboration with Pear Valley Vineyard and Cairjn Wine Cellars, the evening is designed as more than a pairing dinner but a study in contrast. Differing approaches to structure, fruit, and terroir will be explored at the same table to reveal how opposition can create balance.

“What makes this dinner exciting is the opportunity to experience these wines outside of expectation,” say winemakers Jared Lee (Pear Valley) and Andy Neja (Cairjn). “Rhône and Bordeaux are often seen as opposites, but when you taste them side by side, you start to understand how much they can actually reveal about each other. It’s not just about pairing, it’s about discovery.”

Guiding the experience alongside winemakers Lee and Neja is Chef Andrew Brune of The Alchemists’ Garden, who has developed a menu that mirrors the tension and harmony found in the glass.

Rather than building dishes to simply complement each wine, the menu is intentionally composed to challenge and reframe perception. Guests will move through a progression of courses that highlight how texture, richness, and technique interact with each varietal expression. Featured pairings include Roasted Duck Fettuccine with a 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon from Pear Valley Vineyard, and Wagyu New York Steak paired with a 2023 Syrah from Cairjn Wine Cellars, each course illustrating a distinct dialogue between power and restraint.

“I like playing with how a dish shifts with different wines,” says Chef Andrew Brune. “You put something rich next to a Cabernet, then try it with a Syrah, and suddenly you’re tasting it in a whole new way.”

With limited seating, the evening is designed to remain immersive and highly interactive, encouraging guests to engage directly with both the culinary and winemaking teams. The result is a dining experience that is as thoughtful as it is sensory-driven, rooted in curiosity, craftsmanship, and the unexpected.
