About Cos d’Estournel
In the north of the Medoc, on the hill of Saint-Estephe, the majestic of pagodas Cos d’Estournel suddenly appear around a bend in the road. Once past the initial enchantment, one seeks to unravel the mystery preciously hidden behind the imposing Zanzibar door. The residence of the “Maharajah of Saint-Estephe” is full of surprises. It is a veritable palace entirely dedicated to wine, just as Louis-Gaspard d’Estournel wished. From the moment he inherited a few acres of vines in 1791, he continuously sought to expand his estate and provide it with the best techniques, even if it meant taking risks-a fully embraced nonconformity. Convinced that he held an exceptional terroir, this man of taste and adventurer extolled its virtues throughout the world, particularly in India, from where he brought back this inclination for the Orient and the exotic. Like his wine-captivating and elegant,as well as spicy and powerful-he dared to be himself in such a conventional world, cultivating his differences and owning his choices.
Michel Reybier, owner of Cos d’Estournel since 2000, is the founder of La Reserve Hotels & Spas (Paris, Ramatuelle,St Tropez, Geneva, Zurich) and brings a holistic vision of luxury that extends beyond his celebrated Cos d’Estournel vineyard to include La Maison d’Estournel and the private Chartreuse, uniting fine wine, wellness, and world-class hospitality. Cos d’Estournel continues its destiny, balancing audacity and humility. Every decision made is a calculated risk, part of a visionary philosophy that its founder would not have disavowed. Plot-by-plot cultivation taken to its extreme, demanding innovations in the cellar, a taste for beauty and excellence in a world imbued with discreet elegancy; this is the legacy of Louis-Gaspard as his current owner continues it today. The unique style of Cos d’Estournel, born from a sublime terroir magnified with respect by the passion of people over the centuries, makes its discovery a true journey.
