Eola-Amity Hills Emerges as Oregon’s Most Exciting Wine Region

With volcanic soils, coastal breezes, and visionary winemakers, this AVA is quickly becoming a destination for some of the nation’s best wines

September 25, 2025 (Eola-Amity Hills, OR) — The Eola-Amity Hills AVA, a distinguished subregion of Oregon’s Willamette Valley, is emerging as one of the most dynamic and celebrated wine regions in the United States. Long admired by winemakers for its volcanic soils, cool-climate conditions, and winds from the Van Duzer Corridor, the AVA is now capturing national attention with a wave of critical acclaim that underscores its world-class potential.

Recently, Bethel Heights claimed Oregon’s first 100 point wine from Decanter with their 2023 Bethel Heights “The High Wire” Chardonnay, a historic achievement that cements the AVA on a global stage.

“Eola-Amity Hills has quickly become one of the world’s top wine regions. In 2024, three of Oregon’s six wines on Wine Spectator’s top 100 came from this tiny area, even though it produces only a fraction of the state’s grapes. These recognitions showcase not just the exceptional quality of its wines but the vision, dedication, and artistry of the growers who make this region truly remarkable,” says Mark Björnson, Founder/Owner of Björnson Vineyards.

The momentum continues to build throughout 2025, with a diverse range of wineries and varietals across the region earning high scores from the nation’s most respected critics.
