Nomination Honors Camp’s Efforts Making Troon the World’s Only Winery & Vineyard That Is Both Demeter Biodynamic® and Regenerative Organic Gold Certified®

September 10, 2025 (Grants Pass, OR) — Wine industry veteran Craig Camp of Troon Vineyard & Farm has been nominated as Environmental Advocate of the Year by Wine Enthusiast’s 2025 Wine Star Awards. Camp came to Oregon’s Applegate Valley in 2016 to work in a region at the cutting edge of fine winemaking, and biodynamic winegrowing and winemaking. Under his leadership, Troon Vineyard & Farm became the only Demeter Biodynamic® and Regenerative Organic Gold Certified® farm and winery in the world.
“We are proud of what we have achieved on our one hundred acres, but it is not enough to change the world,” says Camp. “We hope to show that you can not only survive, but also thrive by farming for the planet. With no margin, there can be no mission. We strive to achieve both.”
Troon’s General Manager since 2016, Camp is an accomplished fine wine professional with over three decades of experience in every facet of the industry, including importing, exporting, distribution, marketing, sales, viticulture, and fine wine production. He has extensive hands-on experience in wineries in Italy, Napa Valley, the Willamette Valley, and now the Applegate Valley.
Camp has previously been recognized for his work by The New York Times, Washington Post, The Wine Enthusiast, Decanter, Food and Wine Magazine and Saveur Magazine, and others. He is currently president of the Oregon Winegrowers Association and past-president of the Rhône Rangers and the Applegate Valley Vintners Association. He was named one of “Wine’s Most Inspiring People of 2021” by the Wine Industry Network, and Troon was nominated as an American Winery of the Year in 2022.
Troon has also been awarded the Slow Food Slow Wine Snail Award for seven consecutive vintages.
“While I am more than honored to be singled out by the Wine Star Awards, I must share this nomination with our exceptional team at Troon, including Director of Agriculture Garett Long, Viticulturist Jason Cole, Winemaker Nate Wall, and Garden Manager Jennifer Teisl,” says Camp. “The essence of Biodynamic agriculture is the concept of the whole farm as an interwoven organism, and that farm includes the team that farms it.”
Wine Enthusiast’s 2025 Wine Star Awards feature 16 categories of awards, including – for the first time – the Environmental Advocate of the Year honor for which Camp was nominated. All nominees were chosen by the Wine Enthusiast media team, including global sales, events, marketing and the editorial divisions. The 2025 Wine Star Award winners will be celebrated at the 26th annual gala in January 2026.
“I applaud The Wine Enthusiast for introducing the Environmental Advocate of the Year to their prestigious Wine Star Awards,” says Camp. “This will build international awareness of the need to work in harmony with the Earth, producing wines that improve the quality of life for all life on our planet.”
