June 24, 2025 (Hawthorne, FL) –Island Grove Wine Company, Florida’s premier producer of fruit-forward wines, is excited to announce the launch of its Wine on Draft program starting July 1, 2025, featuring its signature Berry Sangria and Blueberry Moscato in recyclable kegs. This initiative is made possible by the signing of SB 578, a landmark law that now allows Florida wine producers to use recyclable containers, offering a sustainable and enhanced way to distribute and enjoy wine.

A Fresh Opportunity for Florida Wines
Governor Ron DeSantis recently signed SB 578, which eliminates the prior requirement for wineries to use only reusable metal kegs. This legislative change marks a turning point for Island Grove, allowing them to use recyclable kegs that protect the taste of the wine while offering a more sustainable and consumer-friendly solution. The new law ensures better preservation of the wine’s fresh, vibrant flavors and makes it easier to distribute in larger quantities across the state.
“This law helps us maintain our commitment to quality and sustainability,” says Sarah Aschliman, VP of Sales and Marketing for Island Grove Wine Company. “By using recyclable kegs, we ensure a better-tasting product and a greener solution for wine lovers in Florida. We’re thrilled to partner with local breweries to bring in our wines on draft, reaching new customers who value both quality and sustainability.”

These wines offer a fruit-sweet addition to the tap wall, giving consumers a refreshing alternative to craft beer, and giving restaurateurs a versatile, crowd-pleasing, and profitable product by the glass. It’s a win-win for everyone.”

A Florida Win for Wine Producers
The new law was championed by Rep. Vanessa Oliver, a Port Charlotte Republican, whose advocacy on behalf of Florida’s blueberry farmers directly benefitted the wine industry. Rep. Yvonne Hinson, a Gainesville Democrat, co-sponsored the bill through the Houseand Sen. Tom Leek, a St. Augustine Republican, sponsored the legislation in the Senate were both instrumental in securing the law’s passage. Rep. Oliver emphasized that the previous requirement for reusable metal kegs negatively impacted the taste (due to mixed gases with the wine). The new law allows wineries to use recyclable containers, protecting the product, and prolonging the shelf life, enabling the freshest possible pour.
Rep. Vanessa Oliver adds, “This may seem like a small adjustment, but for Florida winemakers, it makes a significant difference in the quality of their product and their ability to compete. By allowing recyclable kegs, we’re giving wineries the tools they need to succeed and helping put Florida wines on the map.”
