Bogle Vineyards Announces Start of 2nd Annual Original Ghost Story Writing Contest Winner to Earn $5,000 Prize

Chosen Script May Also Become Short Phantom Wine Film

September 14th – CLARKSBURG, CA – Phantom Wines is now accepting original ghost stories as part of the 2021 PHANTOM WINES GHOST STORY WRITING CONTEST that will award a single winner a $5,000 prize and potentially have their work turned into a short film for the wine brand.

The 2020 winner, Derrolyn Anderson who wrote Flora’s Place, took home $1,000 and her script was made into a short feature which debuts at the Austin Film Festival in late October. Watch the trailer here

“We had so much fun reading all of the fabulous entries from 2020, and we are eager to see what ghost stories we receive in this year’s contest,” said Jody Bogle, Vice President of Consumer Relations. “In addition, we are upping the ante to $5,000 for first place, so get creative and send in your ghost story.”

The Phantom story originates in Scotland as an apparition known as the “Bogle” that once stalked the hillsides of Glasgow. As ancestors of the Bogle family made their way to California, it is believed the Phantom followed. Accounts by employees throughout the years reveal the Phantom may still preside over the vineyards, ensuring the family remains true to its craft. The Phantom wines pay homage to sightings of apparitions at the Clarksburg winery, and now the brand is extending the experience to fans to see who can come up with an original ghost story for this year’s vintage.

Writers 21 years of age and older are invited to submit their short stories (max 1,000 words) to PhantomGhostStories.com before the deadline on October 31st, 2021. A qualified panel of judges from Bogle Vineyards, acclaimed writers and professional filmmakers will choose a winner from the first 500 entries received by that date. The chosen script will be announced by December 31, 2021.
