A Christmas Diptych of Rare Henri Jayer Magnums

ONE AUCTION
TWO LOTS ONLY
A HISTORICAL OCCASION: JAYER

December 19, 2024 (Geneva) — Henri Jayer (1922-2006), the “Master of Pinot Noir” revolutionised winemaking with his philosophy of deep respect for nature and pioneering techniques. Known for focusing on low yields, selective grape sorting, 100% destemming as well as minimal extraction, Jayer’s wines are celebrated for their purity, complexity and power.

Two magnums, sourced directly by Henri Jayer, will be auctioned this holiday season. These flagons, never before offered at auction, come from a respected Burgundy family dedicated to preserving Jayer’s legacy. The auction includes two lots only, two rare vintages: the legendary 1978 Richebourg and the transformative 1993 Cros Parantoux, both of which embody Jayer’s innovative approach and commitment to terroir – the two lots are in magnum format.

Never seen on the market, these magnums were sourced directly from Henri Jayer, ensuring their historical significance and perfect provenance, due to their rarity and pristine condition. Aptly named North-East, A Christmas diptych of rare Henri Jayer magnums this auction by Baghera/wines is a gift to connoisseurs worldwide for the 2024 Christmas season, it represents a once-in-a-lifetime chance for collectors to acquire a true piece of Burgundy history with perfect provenance and exceptional rarity.

Lot 1: Domaine Henri Jayer, Richebourg – 1978 Magnum CHF 60’000 – 120’000
Lot 2: Domaine Henri Jayer, Vosne-Romanée “Cros Parantoux” – 1993 Magnum CHF 20’000 – 40’000

A tip for connoisseurs:
In the renowned wine region of Vosne-Romanée, the prestigious vineyards of Richebourg and Cros-Parantoux are distinguished by their unique geographical orientations. While Richebourg is positioned to the northeast, Cros-Parantoux, located to the northwest of Richebourg, also maintains a predominantly northeast-facing slope. This alignment is crucial to the terroir of both vineyards, as the entire area is situated on a north-east facing hillside, contributing to the distinct characteristics of the wines.
