Nama, a 100% Chardonnay that embodies the vision of Nals Margreid, is the centrepiece of a vertical tasting of seven vintages on the occasion of the 35th Merano WineFestival. Grape selection, expressive purity and a winemaking approach geared towards depth and longevity elevate it to the winery’s signature wine.
November 6, 2026 (Nalles, BZ) — Nals Margreid once again tells the story of its identity through an event dedicated to Nama, Alto Adige DOC Chardonnay, on the occasion of the 35th Merano WineFestival. Nama was born from the ambition to convey the vocation of Nals Margreid and its dream of creating a one-of-a-kind Chardonnay, born from a unique terroir in Alto Adige. At the heart of the event is the masterclass, a journey through time, soils and styles to discover the most authentic soul of the winery, bringing together experts, enthusiasts and wine professionals to explore how the dialogue between tradition and contemporary vision translates into a wine capable of expressing the light, depth and complexity of the land. The masterclass is led by Cristina Mercuri, Master of Wine, CEO & Founder of Mercuri Wine Club, who guides the audience on a journey of discovery and comparison through seven vintages of Nama: 2016, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023.

Winemaker Harald Schraffl, the “father of Nama”, was the first to recognise its potential and to build the winemaking path that today makes it one of the most highly regarded Italian white wines. “Nama was born from the desire to give voice to the mountains and to the depth of Alto Adige’s soils. Rediscovering it across seven vintages lets us see how time reveals its elegance and identity, and confirms, every time, the strength of a vision we believe in,” says Harald Schraffl. “This event allows us to open the doors of our winery and let people taste, and experience, the path we have travelled. With a vertical tasting of Nama we want to share our vision, which finds its most authentic expression in this wine; vintage after vintage, Nama stands out and confirms a choice we have believed in from the very beginning, thanks to the work and dedication of those who work in the vineyard and in the cellar,” says Gottfried Pollinger, Sales Director of Nals Margreid.
NAMA, A VERTICAL TASTING OF SEVEN VINTAGES
The seven vintages being tasted tell the story of the evolution of a high-altitude wine, an expression of the mountains of Alto Adige. Nama 2016 and 2018 are Chardonnay-based cuvées: 85% and 90% respectively, with Pinot Bianco (9% and 7%) and Sauvignon (6% and 3%) from Nalles, in the Adige Valley. From 2019 through to the latest vintage, 2023, Nama is 100% Chardonnay. Every vintage starts with a selective hand harvest; the wine ferments and matures for 18 months in small oak barrels and, after blending, rests in steel tanks until bottling (12 months for the 2016, 9 months for the other vintages), then ages for a further year in bottle.
NAMA AND THE PHILOSOPHY OF NALS MARGREID
Nama is today one of Nals Margreid’s benchmark wines, in which the hallmarks of its philosophy can be recognised: technical precision and territorial identity. From the cuvées of the early vintages to the pure Chardonnay, every bottle tells of the same pursuit of depth and longevity, honed vintage after vintage. The vertical masterclass aims to retrace, in a single session, the story of a wine born from the desire to stand out and that builds a coherent and distinctive dialogue between vintages, where each harvest becomes an interpretation of a place and a moment in time.
