Shady Lane Cellars Brings Home 3 Top Awards in 2026 San Francisco International Wine Competition

October 15, 2026 (Suttons Bay, MI) — Shady Lane Cellars earned three top medals in the 2026 San Francisco International Wine Competition held earlier this month in California.

Topping the list was Shady Lane Cellars’ 2025 Estate Riesling, which earned Double Gold.

“We’re so proud of the medals our recent wines brought home,” said Maddie Vint, assistant winemaker at Shady Lane Cellars. “The Double Gold for our 2025 Riesling feels especially meaningful, as Riesling is what Michigan is known for, and it’s an honor to represent our region with one of our flagship grapes.”

In total, Shady Lane Cellars earned the following medals:

  • 2025 Estate Riesling – Double Gold
  • 2023 Winter Harvest Riesling – Gold
  • 2024 Estate Blaufränkisch  – Silver

“The Gold for our 2023 Winter Riesling was just as exciting.” Vint continued. “This harvest was no joke: we picked it in two feet of snow and extremely low temperatures to capture the intense fruit and high acidity that define our winters.

“Finally, we’re always thrilled when our Blaufränkisch gets recognized. 2024 was an iconic year for Northern Michigan, and it’s awesome to see these wines in the bottle and share what they can do. Our Blaufränkisch continues to wow us, and we’re happy others are discovering the beauty of this variety!”

The San Francisco International Wine Competition is one of the world’s longest-running international wine competitions. it was founded in 1980 as a way to determine and award exceptional domestic and international wines.
