The Delray Beach wine shop by day, wine bar by night opens its grand opening weekend Thursday, October 22, with “Wine & Baseball: Starting Lineup,” an eight-seat tasting on the eve of the World Series
October 13, 2026 (Delray Beach, FL) — Preface Wine, the wine shop by day and wine bar by night at 279 NE 2nd Avenue in downtown Delray Beach’s Pineapple Grove, celebrates its grand opening weekend Thursday, October 22, through Sunday, October 25. Every guest who walks in that weekend will be greeted with a complimentary pour of Champagne.
“Preface was built for people who love wine but don’t love feeling tested by it,” said Jonathan Frutkin, founder and CEO of Preface Wine. “Our guests always get something new and exciting in their hand the moment they walk in. For grand opening weekend, that’s real Champagne.”
The Kickoff: Wine & Baseball: Starting Lineup
The weekend opens Thursday night, on the eve of the World Series, with a lineup card you can drink. Six legends and moments of the game are matched with six wines that play like them: Joe DiMaggio as an ageless Barolo, a perfect game toasted with vintage Champagne, Jackie Robinson as a door pushed open, and a closer guests won’t see coming. Preface general manager Josh Busby hosts each seating at the Owner’s Table: one table, eight seats, six guided pours, elevated ballpark bites, and a scorecard to take favorites home. Seatings run about 90 minutes, at 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM. Tickets are $145 per guest and are booked through OpenTable at preface.wine/pages/our-events.
A Shop That Becomes a Bar
By day, Preface is a wine shop where guests browse the shelf, scan a label, and learn a little about a bottle before they open it. At 4 PM the lights warm up, the shelves slide back, and the 28-seat room becomes a wine bar with tasting flights and charcuterie. Any bottle on the shelf can go home or be opened at the bar, and guests are welcome to stay as long as they like. The house rules are simple: no secret rules, nothing to prove.
Meet JJ
Behind the counter is JJ, Preface’s own sommelier service that combines people and technology. JJ remembers what each guest has liked, notices what surprised them, and suggests what to try next, and it gets sharper with every visit. Preface members can use JJ at Preface and when they shop for wine or dine out at other wine stores and restaurants.
Events and the Wine Club
Preface hosts small, seated events at the Owner’s Table. Recent nights have included “The Fog Line: Two Napas, Blind,” “Rock & Roll Hall of Pours,” and “The Preface Primer,” a $1 introduction to wine for young professionals. The Preface Wine Club delivers a curated six-bottle selection every two months, with tiers from approachable to premium and limited-production wines. Select tiers add concierge service, early access to events, and quarterly wine education sessions.
