September 14, 2026 (Sonoma County, CA) — Old Caz Beer and the Museum of Sonoma County have teamed up to commemorate the 50th anniversary of one of the North Bay’s most recognizable works of art with the release of Running Fence, a limited-edition West Coast IPA celebrating Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s legendary 1976 installation.

Fifty years ago, Running Fence transformed the Sonoma and Marin County landscape, stretching 24.5 miles across rolling hills before reaching the Pacific Ocean. The temporary installation became an internationally recognized work of art and an enduring piece of Sonoma County history.
The beer was created in conjunction with the Museum of Sonoma County’s landmark exhibition, Christo and Jeanne-Claude: Running Fence at 50 Years on display through November 8, 2026. The exhibition explores the artwork, the people and communities involved in bringing it to life, and the extraordinary four-year effort behind its creation.
For Old Caz Beer, the collaboration presented an opportunity to celebrate that history through another medium deeply connected to Sonoma County: craft beer.
Running Fence is a West Coast IPA brewed by Old Caz Beer and packaged in the brewery’s first-ever dual-label canned release. The two complementary labels feature paintings by Sonoma County resident Brian Nelson, who recalled visiting the fence when it was installed.
“Even 50 years years later, the Running Fence remains something that moved a community and inspired artists to push the boundaries of what art is and hopefully this beer and exhibit at the museum reinspires and reminds people how incredible of a feat it was,” said Old Caz General Manager, Rob Saccuzzo. “Between the partnership with the Museum and Brian’s artwork across the two labels, we had the opportunity to create something that celebrates the place we call home.”
Nelson’s artwork draws inspiration from the sweeping white fabric, open hills and unmistakable West Sonoma County landscape before diving into the Pacific Ocean that made the original installation so memorable. By dividing the artwork across two distinct cans, the packaging gives each label its own identity while allowing the complete scene to emerge when the cans are brought together.
The collaboration coincides with a year of programming at the Museum of Sonoma County celebrating the installation’s 50th anniversary. The Museum’s Christo and Jeanne-Claude: Running Fence at 50 Years exhibition uses imagery, immersive elements and firsthand accounts to revisit both the beauty of the finished artwork and the remarkable community story behind making it possible.
“Old Caz has been super collaborative with us on this project.” says Marketing Director, Michelle Erbs. “Nonprofit budgets are tighter than ever right now and we are especially grateful that Old Caz will be contributing a portion of the West Coast IPA sales’ proceeds back to the museum”.
Running Fence West Coast IPA will be available at The Museum of Sonoma County at a special event as well as both Old Caz taprooms on Saturday, September 12th, 2026 in limited quantities.
