Two-night experience at Colony House Motor Lodge pairs Virginia wine, food and a little adventure October 9–11

September 9, 2026 (Roanoke, VA) — This October, Virginia wine is taking a detour.
The Virginia Wine Detour, October 9–11, 2026, brings together winemakers, food and hospitality for a two-night Virginia Wine Month getaway at the newly restored Colony House Motor Lodge in Roanoke.
Presented in partnership with Colony House, Lightwell Survey Wines, bloom Restaurant & Wine Bar and the Monticello Wine Trail, the weekend is designed to take Virginia wine beyond the tasting room and give guests the chance to spend time with the people behind the bottles.
Featured winemakers include Kirsty Harmon of Blenheim Vineyards, Emily Hodson of Veritas and Flying Fox Vineyard, Sebastian Zutant of Lightwell Survey Wines and Damien Blanchon of Afton Mountain Vineyards.
Friday kicks off with a poolside cookout and welcome party presented by the Monticello Wine Trail, featuring food from bloom and music by Tomas C of Magic City Discos. Wines from across the Monticello AVA will be poured Friday and again during Saturday’s poolside wine party, including selections from Blenheim Vineyards, Veritas Vineyards and Winery, Stinson Vineyards, Afton Mountain Vineyards, Keswick Vineyards, Southwest Mountains Vineyards, Michael Shaps Wineworks, Montifalco Vineyard, Pollak Vineyards, Pippin Hill Farm & Vineyards, Loving Cup Vineyard & Winery, Hark Vineyards and Flying Fox Vineyard and Winery, alongside Lightwell Survey Wines.
Saturday gives guests time to explore Roanoke before returning to Colony House for the afternoon poolside gathering. The weekend culminates Saturday night with a four-course dinner on the lawn from Chef Nate Sloan of bloom, paired with wines from Lightwell Survey and featured Monticello Wine Trail producers.
“The Virginia Wine Detour is an opportunity to take the Monticello AVA on the road and introduce our wines and winemakers to a new audience,” said Tracey Love, Executive Director of the Monticello Wine Trail. “It’s less about a traditional wine tasting and more about spending a great fall weekend together over wine, food and a shared love of Virginia.”
Packages begin at $785, including two nights at Colony House and one ticket to the weekend’s food and wine events. Additional guests sharing the room are $250 each. Packages also include welcome bubbles, a custom swag bag, four drink tickets, complimentary tastings, 20% off select Virginia wines and late checkout Sunday.
