August 7, 2026 (Paso Robles, CA) — Vineyard Professional Real Estate (VPRE), a Paso Robles-based luxury brokerage specializing in vineyard, winery, and agricultural real estate across California’s Central Coast, today released a market outlook suggesting that qualified buyers may find a rare acquisition window as the state’s wine industry works through one of its most significant corrections in decades.
According to VPRE, California crushed approximately 2.63 million tons of wine grapes in 2025 — the smallest wine grape crop since 1999 and roughly 23 percent below the five-year average. The firm’s analysis points to the size of the 2026 crop as a key signal for how quickly the industry may reach bottom, with VPRE estimating that could occur between late 2026 and mid-2027, followed by improving transaction activity in 2028 and a more meaningful recovery in select property values beginning in 2029.
Despite the broader correction, VPRE reports having closed approximately $29 million in vineyard and winery property sales year to date, including four vineyard properties and one commercial winery production facility — activity the firm says reflects continued, if more selective, buyer interest in Central Coast wine country real estate.

VPRE’s outlook highlights that today’s buyers are evaluating properties holistically — weighing water availability, existing grape contracts, vineyard health and yield, winery capacity, and alternative agricultural uses such as cattle grazing, rather than focusing solely on planted acreage.
