April 8, 2026 — Wealth managers are forecasting a historic surge in demand for fine wine, as the asset class transitions from a niche “passion asset” into a fundamental defensive pillar for high-net-worth portfolios, new research from fine wine investment platform WineCap shows.
The study – conducted among US-based wealth managers and financial advisors – revealed an unprecedented level of confidence in the sector, with 97% of respondents expecting demand for fine wine to rise over the coming year. This represents the highest figure recorded in the study’s four-year history.
The WineCap Wealth Report 2026 found that fine wine is now featuring more prominently and more aggressively in client portfolios. A third of US advisors reported that their clients now dedicate between 21-30% of their total wealth to fine wine, a significant increase from 2025 levels.
Over 81% of investors view wine as a “safe haven” asset, citing its role as a global, borderless investment that remains independent of traditional currency fluctuations and interest rate hikes.
Alexander Westgarth, Founder & CEO at WineCap said:
“For years, fine wine was seen as an exciting yet niche option for connoisseurs, but in today’s climate of geopolitical and economic uncertainty, perceptions have shifted.
The fact that 97% of wealth managers – whose success depends on navigating volatility – are bullish on fine wine is a testament to its unique mechanics of resilience. We are seeing a return of liquidity and a sophisticated investor base that values wine not just for the cellar, but for its role as a critical fiscal anchor”.
The report also highlights the role of technology and sustainability in driving future growth. Two-thirds (67%) of wealth managers believe AI will be the primary catalyst for market transparency, while 55% of investors now cite ESG credentials as a decisive factor for entering the market. As the investment climate remains challenging, fine wine’s appeal as a globally transportable, supply-constrained asset continues to professionalize, leading more wealth managers to seek specialized partnerships to ensure high-quality access and price transparency.
