Third Generation of Founding Family Assumes Leadership of Iconic Napa Estate Winery
March 24, 2026 (Napa, CA) — Trefethen Family Vineyards, one of Napa Valley’s pioneering family-owned estate wineries, today announced that Hailey Trefethen has been appointed President. Hailey becomes the third generation of the Trefethen family to lead the winery since its founding in 1968.
Raised on the estate, Hailey’s connection to Trefethen is both professional and deeply personal. She spent her childhood at the family home on Trefethen’s Hillspring Vineyard, home to HāLo Cabernet Sauvignon. From an early age, she was immersed in the daily rhythms of vineyard and cellar life, developing a deep understanding of the land that continues to define Trefethen’s estate-grown wines. As a child, she gave informal tours, polished glassware, worked behind the scenes, and even assisted with cluster counts before harvest, early experiences that shaped her lifelong commitment to the craft.
Hailey began her formal career at Trefethen as a Vineyard Intern in 2004 and then returned after college in 2008 progressing steadily through the organization, holding roles across farming, production, hospitality, and marketing. Over time, she has worn nearly every hat within the winery, gaining comprehensive experience and cultivating a leadership style rooted in stewardship, collaboration, and long-term vision.
A dedicated advocate for sustainable winegrowing, Hailey has led Trefethen’s environmental initiatives, playing a key role in the winery’s achievement of the California Green Medal Environment Award, Napa Green Vineyard and Napa Green Winery certifications, Certified California Sustainable Vineyard and Winery status, and the International Award of Excellence in Sustainable Winegrowing. She also led the restoration of the historic winery following the 2014 Napa earthquake, ensuring the preservation of one of Napa Valley’s most iconic landmarks.
Beyond the estate, Hailey is an active leader within the Napa Valley wine community. She has served on the board of Napa Valley Vintners, served as board chair of Napa Green, and is an active member of the Napa Valley Grapegrowers Association, where her father, John Trefethen, served as its first president.
