Airfield Estates Winery Unveils Glider: Estate-Grown, Low-Calorie, Low-Alcohol Wines

March 9, 2026 (Sunnyside, WA) — Airfield Estates, a fourth-generation family farm and winery in the Yakima Valley, is proud to announce the launch of Glider, a new series of “better-for-you” wines.

Inspired by the estate’s rich aviation heritage, Glider wines are crafted to be light, bright, and effortlessly enjoyable without compromising the quality of premium, estate-grown fruit.

The Glider collection debuts with three varietals from the 2025 vintage: Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, and Sauvignon Blanc. Each wine is thoughtfully produced to contain only 90 calories per serving and 9% alcohol by volume.

Glider wines achieve their lower alcohol profile naturally. Winemaker Travis Maple utilized select mature vineyard blocks and early harvesting—picking at lower Brix levels—to preserve natural acidity and aromatic intensity. The older vines develop the grapes’ flavor before sugar levels rise, resulting in a wine that remains flavor-driven and refreshingly vibrant.

“I’ve been tasting fruit in our vineyards for more than 20 years, and I’ve noticed that around 18 Brix our white grapes begin to show a real uniformity of flavor across the clusters and berries,” Marcus Miller, managing member of Airfield Estates said. “When the idea of creating a better-for-you wine came up, I was confident we could do it naturally in the vineyard. A lot of the wines in this category rely on expensive technology or manipulation that can be out of reach for smaller family wineries. It’s exciting that we were able to craft wines that are balanced, flavorful, and 100% natural just through thoughtful farming and picking decisions.”

Key Features of the Glider Series:

  • Estate-Grown: 100% sourced from the Miller family’s estate vineyard in the Yakima Valley AVA.
  • Certified Sustainable: Farmed using practices certified by Sustainable WA and Salmon-Safe.
  • Vegan-Friendly: Produced in a vegan manner without the use of animal-derived fining agents.
  • Pure Expression: Fermented in 100% stainless steel with no malolactic fermentation to preserve a clean, crisp profile.
  • No Manipulation: Lower alcohol levels are achieved naturally by harvesting mature vines early, once flavors have developed but brix levels are still low. No reverse osmosis or centrifugal force techniques are used.
