March 9, 2026 (Burgundy, France) — The 65th annual Hospices de Nuits-Saint-Georges wine auction was held on Sunday 8th March at the Château du Clos de Vougeot in Burgundy. For the second-year running, it was hosted by leading French wine auctioneer iDealwine. It raised a total of €1,526,000 (£1.3m or $1.7m USD). All lots, which included 80 pièces (barrels) and one feuillette (half-barrel), sold.

100% of lots sold, points to strong early confidence in the vintage

The auction of the 2026 Hospices de Nuits-Saint-Georges wines proved a resounding success. This year’s edition attracted particular interest from collectors as it marked the final vintage produced under the direction of Jean-Marc Moron. Technical Director since 1990, he now passes the role on to Laurence Danel. The 2025 vintage impressed tasters with its balance of structure and elegance, offering a profile that is quintessentially Burgundian. With every lot finding a buyer, the auction sent a clear signal of strong early market confidence in the vintage.

In total, 18 red wines (in 79-barrel lots) and one white wine (in one full barrel lot and one half-barrel lot) went under the hammer, generating a total of €1,526,000, an increase of 91.7% compared with 2025. Although growing conditions were more generous than in 2024, the 2025 vintage remains marked by limited yields, with 80.5 pièces (228 litre barrels) produced compared to a more typical range of 100-150. Following the particularly high average bottle prices recorded last year, there was a slight adjustment in price for red wines, while the scarcity of white wines sparked some remarkable bidding. The average hammer price for red wine (18 of the 19 different wines sold) stood at €18,595 per pièce, while the rare white wine fetched an average price of €38,000.

The highest prices in the auction were reached by the Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru Les Saint-Georges Cuvée Hugues Perdrizet and the Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru Les Saint-Georges Cuvée Georges Faiveley, each selling for €47,000. The white wine, Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru Les Terres Blanches, fetched €34,000 (up 26%), complemented by a half-barrel that sold for €23,000.

€59,500 raised for Ani’nomade, the charity supported by this year’s auction

The charity barrel – the Cuvée des Bienfaiteurs – was sold in aid of Ani’nomade, this year’s selected charitable association. The single lot of Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru is a blend of the estate’s nine Premier Crus and therefore a wine unique to the auction. Rather than being sold at auction, the bottle was offered by subscription, with all proceeds dedicated to the Ani’nomade association. Founded in 2010 and based in Burgundy, Ani’nomade is a pioneering organisation in the field of animal-assisted therapy. The charity develops programmes for a wide range of audiences – including elderly people, individuals with disabilities, patients and vulnerable groups – built around the therapeutic benefits of the bond between humans and animals.

This year’s charity initiative raised a total of €59,500, with all 290 bottles purchased. The amount is provisional as it also includes additional personal donations. Please note that this figure is not included in the auction result (€1.5million) as it is purchased rather than auctioned.

Cyrille Jomand, auctioneer and CEO of iDealwine – France’s leading wine auction house and the global leader in online wine auctions – welcomed the results: “In a context of unprecedented instability, this outcome confirms the resilience of prices despite slightly higher volumes, reflecting the high quality of the vintage.”

Guillaume Koch, Director of the Hospices Civils de Beaune, also expressed his satisfaction: “We are pleased with these results given this year’s relatively modest harvest. Certain wine once again confirmed their appeal among Burgundy enthusiasts, achieving prices usually reserved for Grand Crus. The success of the auction is also a fitting tribute to Jean-Marc Moron and his 36 years of service to the estate.”

About the Hospices de Nuits-Saint-Georges
The Hospices de Nuits-Saint-Georges is one of the public health establishments which, together with the sites in Beaune, Arnay-le-duc and Seurre, make up the Hospices Civils de Beaune. Together with their paramedical training institute, they work to provide local, high-quality public care with 988 beds for the 110,000-strong local population.

The Domaine des Hospices de Nuits-Saint-Georges has12.4 hectares of vines, dispersed through the communes of Nuits-Saint-Georges, Premeaux-Prissey, Vosne-Romanée and Gevrey-Chambertin. 19 wines are produced in total, 17 of which are fine Nuits-Saint-Georges red wines. Of those 17, there are nine Premier Crus including the Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru ‘Les Didiers’ monopole appellation. This is complemented by eight village level parcels. The wide range means both the enthusiasts who prefer fine, elegant wines and the collectors who seek more structured, powerful wines are satisfied. The remaining two wines include a well-balanced and fine Gevrey-Chambertin village level wine (red) and one white Nuit-Saint-Georges Premier Cru. This is a very small, boutique production Chardonnay boasting floral and fruity aromas, with more roundness than minerality on the palate.
