65th Annual Hospices de Nuits-Saint-Georges Wine Auction

February 2, 2026 (Burgundy, France) — The 65th annual Hospices de Nuits-Saint-Georges wine auction will take place on Sunday 8th March at 3.00 pm at the Château du Clos de Vougeot in Burgundy. This iconic sale is being organised for the second consecutive year by iDealwine, France’s leading wine auctioneer and global leader in online wine auctions. This 65th edition marks a turning point for the Hospices de Nuits-Saint-Georges Auction.

A “vintage ending in 5” – lives up to high expectations

The March auction will feature wines from the 2025 vintage, which retiring Technical Director Jean-Marc Moron describes as “structured, elegant, and atypical: combining the characteristics of a warm year with the hallmarks of a cool vintage”. Burgundy benefited from favourable summer conditions from May to September. Regular rainfall helped preserve the water table and prevented the vines suffering from water stress right up to the harvest. Yields were lower than expected, averaging 21 hectolitres per hectare, but nevertheless more generous than those of the extremely rare 2024 vintage, which produced just 9.5 hl/ha.

Heritage & Renewal

The historic building of the Hospices de Nuits-Saint-Georges (featured in the image above), sold in November 2025, has been acquired by a property group specialising in the restoration of heritage buildings. Soon, it will be redeveloped into a high-quality housing and apartment units. This decision will allow the hospital to refocus fully on its healthcare role, as the constraints associated with a historic building have been too difficult to reconcile with the requirements of a modern hospital.

New Label

In another major development, the 2025 vintage will be the first to feature a new label. More restrained in style, with a modern font and a white background, it depicts the historic building of the Nuits-Saint-Georges hospital, framed by the town’s coats of arms. This reaffirms the hospital’s place at the heart of this auction. The new design reflects the continuity and heritage of this iconic event, offering collectors and wine lovers a visual identity that is both instantly recognisable and timeless.

Guillaume Koch, Director of the Hospices Civils de Beaune, welcomes these developments, which makes so many new projects possible: “The Hospices de Nuits-Saint-Georges Auction is more than a wine sale; it is an essential tool for supporting the hospital’s work. The choices made today strengthen our ability to invest in patient care while ensuring an identity that remains faithful to the history of our institution.”

35 years of commitment and a new chapter

After 35 years devoted to the Domaine des Hospices de Nuits-Saint-Georges, Jean-Marc Moron will hand over the reins of the estate to Laurence Danel following the 65th Wine Auction. A true custodian of the estate’s strong reputation, he has overseen its major developments: modernisation of the winery, the introduction of sustainable viticultural practices adapted to a changing climate, and under his management, wines renowned for their elegance and finesse.

Laurence Danel will continue this journey, with the ambition of further improving wine quality and the estate’s reputation, while strengthening environmentally responsible practices in respect of the terroir.

In addition, the estate has recently benefited from the bequest of two parcels of vines, expanding its holdings by 45 ares in the Nuits-Saint-Georges appellation which includes almost 23 ares of premier cru vines.

Charity Pièce – in aid of animal-assisted therapy

Since the 2021 vintage (with the exception of 2024), the charity barrel has taken the form of a Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru. A true ode to the great Pinot Noirs of the appellation, this Premier Cru represents the quintessence savoir-faire of the Domaine des Hospices de Nuits-Saint-Georges. The barrel is offered by subscription, bought by the bottle rather than going under the hammer, with proceeds going to the Ani’nomad charity this year. Founded in 2010 and based in the Côte-d’Or, this association is a pioneer in the field of animal-assisted therapy. Funds raised through the Auction will be used to finance the development of the association’s premises and outdoor spaces in Plombières-lès-Dijon. Designed as a place for welcome, sharing and inclusion, the site will offer playful and adapted spaces, notably enabling access for people with reduced mobility.

About the Hospices de Nuits-Saint-Georges
The Hospices de Nuits-Saint-Georges is one of the public health establishments which, together with the sites in Beaune, Arnay-le-duc and Seurre, make up the Hospices Civils de Beaune. Together with their paramedical training institute, they work to provide local, high-quality care with 988 beds for the 110,000-strong local population.

The Domaine des Hospices de Nuits-Saint-Georges covers 12.4 hectares, dispersed through the communes of Nuits-Saint-Georges, Premeaux-Prissey, Vosne-Romanée and Gevrey-Chambertin. 19 wines are produced in total, 17 of which are fine red Nuits-Saint-Georges wines. Of those 17, there are nine Premier Crus including the Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru ‘Les Didiers’ monopole appellation. This is complemented by eight village level parcels. The wide range means both the enthusiasts who prefer fine, elegant wines and the collectors who seek more structured, powerful wines are satisfied. The remaining two wines include a well-balanced and fine Gevrey-Chambertin village level wine (red) and one white Nuit-Saint-Georges Premier Cru. This is a very small, boutique production Chardonnay boasting floral and fruity aromas, with more roundness than minerality on the palate.
